The trial of Madame Euphemie Lacoste (b. 1819), whose family forced her to marry her 68-year-old great uncle Henri Lacoste in 1841. When he died suddenly and his body was found to contain arsenic, she was arrested and tried for murder, along with 70-year-old schoolmaster Joseph Meilhan, to whom she had given a minor pension. They were acquitted because of insufficient evidence (the traces of arsenic in Lacoste's blood may have been due to treatment for syphilis). Very scarce.
