A bit of foxing to the boards, near fine in a modestly toned, very good dustwrapper with a couple of faint splash marks. Nicely Inscribed by Sendak in 1966 with a small drawing of a dog.

[Paris: no publisher, 1935. Near Fine. Hand colored lithographic print on fine wove paper. Image size approximately 7" x 11". Likely removed from a folio volume as indicated by a thin stub tipped-in along the left edge of the sheet. Near fine. Possibly one of the eight original Eres prints for the pornographic novel *Aventures d'une satyre* (attributed to Jane de Rozat) published in Paris in the mid-1930s.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1934. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Lightly worn cloth, near fine in an attractive, first issue dustwrapper with an unfaded spine and some minor repair and restoration at the extremities. Fitzgerald had all but fallen off the map when this, his last completed novel, was issued. A portrait of expatriates on the French Riviera, it was supposedly based on Gerald and Sara Murphy but is as likely based on the Fitzgeralds themselves. The 1962 film version by Henry King, the last of his many films adapted from literary novels, featured Jason Robards and Jennifer Jones. Housed in a custom clamshell case. A very nice copy of a desirable and very uncommon title, almost never encountered without fading to the spine. *Connolly 100*.

(Brooklyn / On board the USS Utah): (Middlesex Sales Co. / USS Utah), 1924. Very Good. Two items of memorabilia from the dreadnought battleship USS *Utah*, dating from its cruise around South America (November 1924 - March 1925). The first item is an elaborately printed and hand-colored certificate issued to seaman Paul John Leoni on 3 December 1924, Signed by General John J. Pershing, Captain Rufus Zenas Johnston, Rear Admiral John H. Dayton, and New York Congressman Frederick C. Hicks. Measuring 22" x 17". The other item is a 12-page pamphlet in printed wrappers with a cloth tie, which was "Printed on board the United States Ship Utah, 1925." Both are very good or better with some light soiling. Laid-in is a 1917 post card of the ship. The USS *Utah*, under the command of Captain Johnston, left Boston in November 1924 on a special mission to the Republic of Peru. Containing the Old and New Testaments (with both versions of the New Testament); the Apocrypha; a complete Concordance; 100,000 marginal references, etc. Illustrated with color lithographic plates and maps, steel-engraved and wood-engraved plates, and wood-engraved illustrations throughout the text. Bound in at the back are two double-sided color lithographic cardboard sleeves with mounting slots to accommodate 16 family portraits. A rare and beautifully preserved pictorial family bible bound in elaborate gilt-decorated paneled morocco with metal clasps. The tail of spine and two raised bands are lightly rubbed, a bright, fine copy housed in the publisher's original cardboard box with a printed paper label. First Israeli edition, and the first hardcover edition (there was also a wrappered issue of the Israeli edition). Two volumes in one. Original blue leather-textured papercovered boards in dustwrapper. Offsetting to the front and rear endpapers as usual, small and light stain on rear fly leaf, else near fine in a modestly rubbed, very good dustwrapper with some tanning to the white portion of the spine and a few modest chips. The first hardcover edition; the true first edition was published in Paris in two wrappered volumes. Stamped with the number 1442 on the front flap, Nabokov bibliographer Michael Juliar believes all copies of the Israeli edition were numbered, both hardcover and wrappered. A very uncommon issue of a high spot of modern literature. The rarer of two known states (the other bearing a 1717 imprint): Volume 1 (Old Testament and Apocrypha) issued with the illustrated engraved title page engraved by John Sturt and dated 1716; and Volume 2 (New Testament) issued with an engraving of the Annunciation on the letterpress title page and dated 1716. A rare copy of the magnificent ‘Vinegar Bible', in a presentation binding of black levant leather with the Royal Cypher of King George III (surmounted by a crown) stamped in gold in five compartments on the spines of each volume, and the Royal Arms (with "G.R. A lifelong ‘Kodak man' until his retirement in 1983, Haist was an internationally recognized technical expert and an award-winning photographer known for his western landscapes and nature prints, and scenes of everyday American life. His photographic work appeared in *National Geographic*, *National Wildlife*, *Smithsonian*, and Kodak publications. The collection consists of about 130 holograph and typescript manuscripts: (50 notebooks of holograph manuscripts; 38 volumes of bound typescripts; 39 unbound typescripts; two holograph booklets; one unbound holograph manuscript); seven of Brown's published novels (five of which are annotated by him and have extra material laid in); and about 60 miscellaneous items (including manuscript extracts, letters. and photographs). The bulk of the writings date from the late 1920s-1950s.
