Topeka, KS: Crane & Co.. First Edition . Cloth - Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Jacket. 8vo. Bound volume containing all four issues of Volume II, being July, 1892 to April, 1893. Very minimally Ex-Library, with a faint letter "K" on the spine, and the letter "C" at the bottom of the same page. Black buckram cloth binding, with gilt stamped lettering on spine. Original paper covers bound at end of volume, show a penciled name at the top of one, and a chipped corner at the bottom of another. Cloth covers show a little rubbing along bottom edges. Volumes remains very tight and otherwise clean. Nice copies of this scarce Kansas history and literary magazine.

Edinburgh, 1812. Second Edition . Quarter Leather. Good/No Jacket. 4to. 491 pages, plus 16 plates of which eight are colored and one other is folding, plus four folding tables, plus two maps of which one is large fold. Later, though probably 19th century binding, with leather over spine and marbled paper over boards (the later perhaps original?). Small leather spine label, perhaps from original binding, with "acKinzie [and] Iceland." Cover are rubbed and show general light wear. Moisture stain along outside edge of last 20 leaves. Four inch closed tear in folding map from bound edge into border but not affecting any other part of image. Scattered, mostly light, foxing, though a little heavier on title page. Volume remains tight and complete, and contents have been collated.

New York: Bailliere Brothers, 1859. First Edition, Thus . Half Leather - Hardbound. Very Good/No Jacket. 412 pages, plus 52 hand colored plates, plus ads & 814 pages, plus one plate; Burgundy dyed leather over spines and corners, with raised spine bands, black leather spine labels, and gilt stamped lettering; Green cloth cover covers; Top edges are gilded; Covers are a little rubbed and scuffed, and show light wear at corners and along edges; Contents show scattered mostly light foxing and occasional smudges; Volumes remain tight and are generally very clean; Plates have been collated and are all present; Text is mostly un-opened.

Der Akademie Ubergeben Den, 1856. Cloth - Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Jacket. 4to. Extracted from the Transactions of the Akademie Ubergeben, Vol. XXVI, Part I. Pp: 33-86, plus three folding plates. Two plates showing the skull of the grizzly bear, and one beautifully hand colored plate of the bear. Recently bound in green cloth boards, and black cloth with gold lettering on spine. Paper shows some signs of age, and the third (b/w) plate shows slightly creased corners. Contents are otherwise clean and intact.

London: Richard Phillips, 1805. First Edition . Full Leather. Good/No Jacket. 4to. 487 pages, plus 20 hand colored plates. Early leather covers, very nicely rebacked with polished leather, raised spine bands, and gilt stamped lettering. Marbled end leaves. Original boards shows wear along edges and scattered scuffs. Recent spine covers remain perfect. End leaves are chipped along edges, and show general wear. Book plate on front paste down has been torn out and there is a small book plate at upper corner of same page. Offsetting and scattered light foxing, mostly affecting first ten leaves. First couple plates with some darkening and light foxing, but retaining good image and color. Remaining plates are bright, though show some offsetting to opposite text leaves. Volume remains tight and contents are otherwise very clean.

Boston: Alfred Mudge and Son, 1856. Fifth edition . Soft cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First published in 1854, this fifth edition was published in 1856 and expanded to 54 pages. David Dary (1986) reports fourteen editions, with the last being published in 1857 having been expanded to 118 pages. This copy is bound in plain white wrappers and shows light creases though remains very clean, tight, and otherwise intact.

Boston: The Association of Breeders of Thoroughbred Holstein Cattle, 1872. First Edition . Cloth - Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 71 pages, plus six lithographic plates. Blank end leaves are darkened. Scattered, mostly light, foxing. Water stain along the outside edge of last 15 leaves, not affecting text or images, and not sticking. Covers show a few light scuffs and smudges, though overall volume remain tight and fairly clean. Acceptable copy of this scarce first work on the Holstein breed in the U.S. Contents cover early history of the breed and its introduction to the U.S. Details included on all 61 bulls and 67 cows in the U.S. at the time of compilation, most of these having been imported from North Holland.

Topeka, KS: Kansas State Historical Society, 1976. 226 pages. Presentation copy bound in full red leather with red speckles on edges of text block. Gilt stamped title and Nyle H. Miller on top cover and the Kansas state flower, the sunflower, on the spine. This copy is inscribed personally to Nyle Miller by each of the five editors. Laid in is a program for Nyle H. Miller Day (Nov. 12, 1976), and a few clippings. Covers show a little light rubbing, though the volume is otherwise Fine. Included with Mr. Miller's personal copy is a second volume titled "Nyle Miller, His Book: Remembrances and wishes form his Friends, December 29, 1976." This cloth bound volume includes about 50 inscriptions and remembrances from friends and associate at the Kansas State Historical Society, on the last day of his formal employment. . Abilene, KS: Reflector Publishing Company, 1903. 168 pages. Ex-Library, now in library type of binding. Usual library markings inside, though no library markings on the covers. Frontispiece shows chipping and tears, there is a quarter sized open tear affecting the edge of the authors portrait though not his image. Last two pages of text also show chipping, with some paper loss at the lower corner of the last text page affecting the last two letters in "old." Volume remains solid and contents are otherwise clean and in good condition. James B. Shane was born in Kentucky in 1840 and served with distinction in the Civil War, after which he was promoted to Captain. Following the War, he moved along with his family to Abilene, Kansas and later to Lawrence, Kansas in 1878. There, he operated various photography studios on Massachusetts St. until 1902 when he was convicted of murder. Originally published in four parts issued in paper wraps; the first three parts were produced in 1884, and the last in 1885. Later binding with red burgundy cloth spine and corners, and green cloth over boards. Black ruled edges to green cloth. Lacking original paper wrap covers. Gold colored lettering on spine is a little faded, though remains clear. Volume shows just a little spine lean. Library stamp and withdrawal stamp in blank upper space of copyright page (verso of title page), and NO other library markings. One leaf, page 15/16 shows triangular paper loss at lower outside corner, with later repair. Text is not affected. Small and light penciled checks along index list of plates. Half bound in dark green polished leather with raised spine bands and gilt lettering and decoration. Pebbled cloth over the boards. Marbled end leaves and edges. Heraldic book plate on front paste down of volume I. A little very light foxing and a few very light scuffs. A lovely set!. Third Edition. Half Leather - Hardbound. Very Good+/No Jacket.

London: James Knapton, 1703. First Edition . Full Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 162 pages, followed by index and five pages of publishers' ads. Folding map at frontispiece, plus four tables/maps and ten natural history plates. Vol. III in Captain William Dampier's adventure series stands alone, though a continuation of this work was published six years later. This is a particularly lovely, sound, and complete copy of the scarce first edition. Later full calf binding in contemporary style. Covers show very light rubbing, mostly on lower edges. Map is bright and crisp with strong water mark. Two older inked names are seen at the top of the title page, one dated 1877. Mostly light foxing, though a little heavier on the first six leaves. Otherwise, contents remain crisp and clean.

London: R. H. Porter / Henry Sotheran & Co.. First Edition . Half Leather - Hardbound. Very Good/No Jacket. 4to. Henrik Gronvold. Five volumes in seven, published between 1896 and 1912. Later half red Moroccan leather, with red cloth over boards. Raised spine band and gilt stamped letters. Association Set having previously belonged to Robin Kemp (London, 1871-??) who in 1904 worked with Shelley incorporating his help to classify birds he had gathered in Sierra Leone between 1902 and 1904. Having been sent to Sierra Leone as an accountant with a railway firm, Kemp filled his spare time collecting bird specimens, and soon identified himself as a "Professional Specimen Collector." In addition to two trips to New Zealand, and a later trip to Argentine, Kemp was commissioned by C. D. Rudd to collect in East Africa from 1908-1911. Bound and paginated into a single volume. 580+ pages, plus 35 plates, though lacking plates I, II, & IV. Some plates are bound out of order. Engraved and highly decorated primary title page, with separate title pages of each part. Original paper over card board covers with paper spine label. Covers are very worn. Small library book plates on front paste down. Inked library number at lower corner of blank front free end page and on blank verso of Part I title page. There are no other library markings. Foxing affecting first ten leaves, and edges of most plates and title pages. Part I title page with vertical crease.

New York: G. P. Putnam & Co., 1855. Number 21 of an edition of 110 extra-illustrated sets created by the publisher. Complete in five volumes published form 1855 to 1859. Each volume is fully bound in tan Moroccan leather with gilt lettering and decoration on spine, and along the edges both inside and out. Raised spine bands create six compartments. All edges of text are gilded. Marbled end leaves. Proceeding the table of contents, there is a page listing the added illustrations in each volume, with a total number of added plates being 127. Several of the added illustrations show offsetting onto adjacent pages, and there are two small blue ink stains on the frontis portrait of George Washington in Vol. I. Other slight wear is seen. Each volume is housed in a slipcase that has been functional, though not particularly attractive.
