Folder illustrated with a Vorticist design by Lewis. Heavily marked, stained and darkened, edges rubbed, slight area of loss to paper cover to top edge of upper cover, a series of tiny prickmarks to upper cover, staples rusted. One of 200 copies (though Pound & Grover speculate that perhaps only fifty copies of the folder were made). Rebound in half leather with marble boards circa 1900, retaining the original lithographic front cover/title page with ‘New Edition’ in top right corner, publisher T.McLean in lower right corner.. Lithographed throughout with pictorial title 'Old Derry Down Derry' and 71 of 72 plates only (lacking 'Cape Horn'), printed on rectos only on thicker paper. The two 'Old Man of the West' plates with correct images, plates 20, 25, 34, 64 & 65 with parts of the verse redrawn ,four being the same plates as in the first edition, foxed in parts. Plate number 65 is badly cropped at the bottom, with loss of the last line of text. Plate 14 'Old Man of Jamaica' poorly printed at head and with scratch to verse, one or two images very slightly cropped at head, The binding is worn, rubbed, with the front hinge being quite weak and spine faded.… Read More

Illustrated with twenty-six hand coloured wood engravings illustrations by Robert Cruikshank, with text by McDonald. Text and illustrations printed within ruled borders with corner ornaments. Bound in original yellow card boards. These have darkened. Some light foxing and finger marks, otherwise a very nice copy. Vary Scarce . Circa 1840. COPAC only list one copy in the Victoria and Albert Museum with yellow paper wrappers, description matches this copy.

London: Darton and Harvey,, 1797. Hardcover. Very Good. 16mo. 120pp. Illustrated withthirty wood engraved portraits, full length, of monarchs in the text. Bound in original Dutch patterend boards, shaken and defective to the spine, but a clean complete copy. This was the last of the 18th Century editions of this popular illustrated history book for children first issued under this title by Newbery in 1759, subsequent editins brought up to date, this one down to 1794 only. Scarce.

A very good impression on antique laid paper with a eagle and snake watermark. My conservator suggested this was 17th century paper.There was light foxing near the number which has been cleaned. (See photo with watermark) Signed and numbered in ink. "The south bank of the Thames, at Bermondsey round the curve of the muddy shore, barges are lying under warehouses. In the foreground, four men are repairing a barge, while another stands on the deck, working a pump." (Hardie). Born in Naples in 1933, Guido Biasi studied at the Artistic High School and at the College of Fine Arts in his hometown. In 1954 he became a member of Movimento di Pittura Nucleare (Nuclear Painting Movement) and in 1957 he signed the Abisola Marina Manifesto with Colucci, Piero Manzoni, Sordini and Verga. It has been professionally rebound in cloth retaining the original orange printed wrappers, which have been laid onto the front and back boards. It has a blind stamp on the title page. New endpapers, title page has a small repaired tear; missing the ‘Introduction’ page; p.28, last page has a repair to the lower and upper missing right corners and some repaired tears. Bound in original chromolithographed wrappers. On verso of the front cover is There is an inscription in ink ‘With best wishes for One Shree at 4, the Grove from Auntie Ada’ . The book has recently been professionally repaired, the spine and corner creases strengthened. There is some light off setting, but generally in very good condition, as quite often with these chromolithographic printed books, the oils in the ink stick together causing surface damage. There are a couple of small incidences of this, but not much. What is very interesting about this book –which I haven’t seen before, inserted is an English Translation. The book is illustrated with halftone reproductions after collages by Valentine Penrose plus an original etching by Pablo Picasso. This is number 249 of 350 copies, sur Velin which includes the Picasso etching with the 2 bars, the cancellation mark. This etching shows the cancellation bars on the right upper corner, and is numbered 249/350 in pencil. Pablo Picasso especially made the etching for the book and is titled 'The Couple'. The full etching sheet measures approximately 13 inches X 10 inches. The actual etching plate measures approximately 6 5/8 X 8 1/2 inches. Sometimes the etching and the book become separated; rare to begin with, it is even more rare to find the etching and book still being offered together.The softcover book is in very good condition, with clean white pages. New York: McLoughlin Bros. Hardcover. Good +. No date [ca. 1880]. Large thin 4to color pictorial paper-covered boards. A remarkable and ingenious toy book. Four pages of text. The two-page centre plate is a colour chromolithograph stage proscenium, complete with an orchestra in the pit and boxes at the sides. Inserted via string ties in the centre is a chromolithographed booklet which changes the scenes when its pages are turned. Some are half pages that change characters in the scene, a forerunner of the technique used by Goodall in his toy books. The scenes in the insert show the complete story as described in the text. Spine split and worn, therefore books is fragile,. board edges with some wear; Contents slightly discoloured but one page with a small marginal piece missing, clean and complete, with the stage scene fine and bright.
