Hardervici (Harderwijk),: Johannes Wigmans,, (1750).. [20], 696, [192] pp. Royal 8vo (13,5 x 20,5 cm.). Contemporary marbled calf, spine with raisen bands, gilt lettered (top & bottom rubbed with some slight loss of leather; some scattered rubbing at spine; hinges parly worn), marbled edges. Title printed in red and black. With a fine engraved title vignet by S. Fokke. ¶ The very rare first edition. Later editions Amsterdam 1755 & 1760. --(Lower corner of title-page neatly repaired; a split in the bookblock between page 416-417; text partly slightly browned, but a very acceptable copy of this rare item). Copy with the bookplate of Dr. R. Rickaert. Not in Volckringer.

Coethen,: F.A. Estockel,, 1860.. [viii], xcvi, 656, 235 (Repertorium & index), [iii] pp. Small 8vo. (11.5 x 17.5 cm.). Contemporary green cloth, spine with gilt rullers and gilt lettered. The very rare first edition. Lutze was a controversial figure in Homeopathy with an enormous influence among the layman. This very contraversional book is a fundament in the history of Homeopathy. --(Partly some light stains and/or foxing, but a very good copy).

Paris,: Chez Vincent,, 1770.. [ii blank], viii, 256 pp. 12mo (8,5 x 14,5 cm.). Contemporary marbled calf, spine with red morocco, gilt lettered, label, in compartments gilt decorated with fleurons (joints slightly worn with a small crack), edges of sides with gilt ruler; edges red.. With 12 figures in the style of Ryff on 2 folded engraved plates. Raulin first doctor at Nérac (Guyenne) moved to Paris where he became physician to Louis XVI. He was a prolific author of both theoretical and practical works. The present work, written in a very comprehensive languages, was written by order of the French Government who was alarmed by the fatal results in childbirth caused by inexperienced country practitioner. This second edition was published in the same year as the first edition (who had only 168 pp.). This work was translated into Dutch, German and Portuguese. Dezeimeries III, 787; Bayle/Thillaye II, 357. --(The first 20 pages have a light waterstain; some scattered light foxing, but a nice copy).

T'Antwerpen,: By den Weduwe van Jean François Lucas,, 1725.. 3 parts in one volume: [xvi], 78, [i]; [iv], 30, i]; [ii], 86, [ii] pp. Small 8vo (10 x 16 cm.). Contemporary marbled calf, spine with raised bands and in compartments gilt (top & bottom of spine slightly damaged; hinges slightly worn, but firm; corners a bit bumped; title shield gone). With an engraved title vignet and some headings. ¶ The last part has a separate title page: CLARIUS ET MAJUS LUMEN PHARMACOPAEORUM Dat is een claerder en meerder licht der Apothekers. Alwaer wordt voor gestelt eene sekere maniere, hoe dat eenige Medicynen moeten bereyt gemaeckt worden, soo Galenicé, als Chimicé, alles met redenen bewesen dienende tot onderwysinge van de Leerlingen. Van der Aa II, 56; Blake 77.-- (First blank end-paper gone; some occasional light foxing, but all together a very acceptable copy of a rare book).

Paris,: Chez l'Auteur; Durant et Didot,, 1780.. 2 works in one volume: iv, 320, [iv,approbation]; 90, [iv, approbation] pp. Small 8vo (10,5 x 17,5 cm.). Contemporary half dark brown calf, spine richly gilt decorated "á la grotesque", gilt lettered red Morocco label (small tear [ca. 3 cm.] in the gutter of the front side). A nice copy of the first edition of both works. There are 4 later editions, the last in 1805. The author, "ancien chirurgien-major de la Marine" was a great advocate of catheterisation. According to a contemporary review, the work on urology has some interesting point of views, but written in a horible style. In both work Guérin strongly oposite quackery and urge the public not to deal with charlatans. Rare. Hirsch II, 688; Dezeimeris II/1, 656; Wellcome III, 175.

Lugduni (Lyon),: Joannem Certe,, 1686. [xii], 413, [xxxiii] pp. Small 8vo (9,3 x 15,3 cm.). Contemporary brown calf (top and bottom of spine slightly damaged; upper edge of the front side slightly rubbed; corners a bit bumped), Spine in compartments gilt decorated and lettered; speckled edges. Seme wood-engraved head and tail pieces. With a contemporary engraved bookplate of Ludovicus Feuilherade M.D. ¶ Apparently the ONLY copy known of this 1686 Johannem Certe edition. The official "Editio secunda" was published by Certe in 1687. Presumably the 1686 edition was printed at the occasion of Tencke's inauguration at Montpellier in 1686, but the printer overlooked to print the King's approbation within this 1686 edition. Certe has to cancel the edition and released a little bid later (1687) the correct edition with the approbation. The 1686 editions: Montpellier Peronnel & Venice de Rhinetta, are pirate editions. No copy in the BNF or NLM, nor in the World Cat.

Francofurti & Lipsiae,: Frid. Fleischer,, 1753.. [xviii], 334, [ii] pp. Small 8vo (11 x 18 cm.). Contemporary calf, spine with 4 raised ribs, in compartment gilt decorated; red morocco title label (gilt decoration somewhat faint; top of spine has some slight loss of leather owing to rodent bites, but a good copy); edges red spickeled. With a nice half-page amorial engraving by Rössler and a few woodcut head- and tail pieces. The rare first edition. A very popular work of which 17 editions have been published between 1753 and 1828 in 3 languages. Former owner inscription (L. Merlin) on title.

Gandavi,: Typis Judoci Begyn,, 1786 (= 1787).. [10], 466, [ii]; [iv], 44, [iv] pp. 4to (20 x 24.5 cm.). Recent half brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands; marbled boards. ¶ An interesting municipal pharmacopoea, published by order of the Collegium Medici Gandensis under the editorship of the pharmacists J. de Bever, A.D. Goormachtigh, G. van den Haute, and J. de Vos. The popolar names of the Materia Medica also give in Dutch. This was the last of a series of the municipal pharmacopoeasof Gent. The first was published in 1653 as 'Antidotarium Gandavensis", followed by an edition in 1663, and in 1756 as 'Pharmacopoea Gandavensis'. This is the last municipal pharmacopoea published in Belgium, and new was that the names of the Materia Medica are given in both Latin and Dutch. Today very rare.-- (A number of leaves slightly browned and/or partly foxed).

Paris,: Méquignon,, 1784.. 496, [vi, publ. cat. + Extrait des Régistres de la Soc. Roy. de Méd.] pp.12m0 (10,5 x 17 cm.). Contemporary full calf, spine with 5 raised bands, gilt lettered and gilt floral decorations in compartments (front joint broken; sides have quite some loss of leather). With a fine engraved portait of Lorry by Aug. de St. Aubin after a drawing by C.N. Cochin. ** Rare. Lorry is considered as the father of French dermatology. This is his last work, published posthumously by Jean-Noël Hallé (1754-1822). -- (Some scattered foxing; uper margin of the last 20 pages sligthly waterstained; a mediocre copy, priced accordingly).

A large folded lithographed plate (31 x 41 cm.) preserved in the original gilt lettered portfolio (10,5 x 16,5 cm.) ¶ A rare and slightly erotic lithograph printed by Auguste Bry..-- (Some scattered light foxing; spine of the portfolio partly slighly rubbed; some folds reinforced).

Strasbrourg & Paris,: le Roux & Retaux-Bray,, 1890.. xii, 560 pp. Small 8vo. Contemporary half dark brown morocco (very slightly rubbed, spine gilt lettered. With numerous figures in the text. First French edition of Mein Wasser-Kur. -- (Cancelled library stamps on half title and title).

Paris,: Richard, Caille et Ravier,, An X (1801).. xxviii, 291, [i, blank] pp. 8vo (12,5 x 20 cm.). Contempoarary half calf, spine gilt decorated and gilt lettered on orange morocco label (some slight rubbings; 2 small traces of rodent bites), marbled boards. With 5 folded engraved plates of which 4 very engravings of cinchona species. The second, much expanded, edition of Alibert's thesis, the founder of the modern French school of dermatology. A 5th. edition was published in 1819. Bayle/Thilay II, 935. "La Thèse inaugurale d'Alibert sur les 'Fièvres intermittentes perniceuses' eur un grand retentissement. Revue et complétée, elle obtint jusqu'a cinq éditions successives' (Dechambre). The first edition was published in 1800 and has only 159 pages and 1 plate.

Paris,: Germer-Baillière,, 1835.. x, 640 pp. 8vo (13,5 x 21 cm.). Contemporary half olive calf (joints worn), spine gilt lettered. Second enlarged French translation, expanded with additions communicated by the author to the translator. This work is the first textbook of neuropathology. "Classical and Standard Work in Neurology"(MacHenry). "His definitive descriptions of the various diseases afflicting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves were a major contribution to neuropathology and this book stands as a milestone in the development of neuropathology"(Heirs of Hippocrates". Garrison & Morton, 2285. --(Light scattered foxing & browning but a good copy).

Paris,: Octave Doin,, 1879.. [vi]], 419, [iii] pp. 8vo (15,5 x 23 cm.). Contemporary half calf (partly faded and slightly rubbed). With 82 engravings in the text. ¶ Louis de Wecker was one of the greatest French ophthalmologists of his time. "He made significant contributions to the advancement of ophthalmology by introducing the ophthalmoscope, developing new surgical techniques, and inventing new instruments for operative surgery" (heirs of Hippocrates, 1977).--(Scattered foxing, especially in the fist 25 and last 20 pages; stamp of former owner on half-title).

Paris & Bruxelles,: G. Van Oest,, 1928.. [ii, blank], xii, 134, [ii] pp. Folio (27,5 x 36,5 cm.). Contemporary half green grained morocco; spine with 5 raised bands, gilt lettered, in compartments gilt decorated with floral motive; hand made marbled boards and marbled end-papers; top edges gilt; original printed wrapper bound in; preserved in a matching slipcase. With a coloured frontispice and one coloured plate (in chromolithography), and 100 fine plates in helio-engraving. Title printed in red and black. ¶ Henry Martin's last work. A superb, and finely bound large paper copy, being one of the 25 copies printed on "papier d'Arches à la cuve". There are only a few copies with the second coloured plate. Including a bibliography of Henry Martin's publications. A very fine faultless 'de luxe' copy.
