Rare books from Town Books of San Anselmo

Extremely rare volume of poetry and essays by the early 19th century French author, poet and literary figure, Delphine de Girardin née Gay. This small (4.5 in. x 2.75 in.) volume is over 180 years old and is in excellent condition. Quarter bound in green leather and marbled paper. The spine is embossed with gilt scrollwork, title and author. The hinge is tight and the pages slightly yellowed with age, but still in fine, readable condition. Red Silk bookmark is still attached and faded only on the surface outside the book. No internal markings, bookplates or tears to pages. A remarkably preserved book for its age! There are no other similar copies of this vintage for sale on the Web!

This beautifully preserved book is in Near Fine condition. Boards, titles and decorative design are all bright and clear with no fading or chipping. Pages are clean and hinge is tight. Minor bumps to head and foot of spine. End papers are slightly soiled and original owner's name is in pencil on FFEP. There are very minor scuffs to the front cover pictorial pastedown.
The author was a noted stage and screen actress of her day as well as an author and a Harper's correspondent in World War I. She was married to Walter Hale, an artist, illustrator and actor who could have been the illustrator of this book as he illustrated many other books for Louise. Priced to sell! There is only one other 1st Edition of this title for sale on the web at a much higher price.

Binding has minor chipping and bumping on corners. edges and on head of spine along with some light soiling. Hinge is intact but slightly loose through the first 6-8 pages of the book. This fine, 2nd edition of David Hockney's 'alphabet' drawings with short poems and essays by various authors (Joyce Carol Oates, Arthur Miller, John Updike, Iris Murdock, Susan Sontag, Seamus Heaney, etc.) was an AIDS fundraiser. The book is in fine condition with no flaws and the Dust Jacket has only a small crease on the front dust jacket bottom and the inside front panel price clipped (see photos.) Priced to sell!

" This copy is one of a limited edition of 175 copies printed on Italian hand-made paper at the Alderbrink Press by Ralph Fletcher Seymour. Indexed.

This is the rare, first edition of Heinlein's Hugo Award winning novel, Double Star, with "First Edition" stated on the copyright page and first issue points including the title, "The Long Tomorrow", printed on the back panel that was changed in later printings. The book is in near perfect condition with just 2-3 front endpaper pages having been creased when they were folded up when the book was closed. Otherwise, no stains, scuffs, or tears. Hinges are like new. Spine titles are bright and not faded. Pages are bright and clean. No internal markings. Dust jacket has some soiling, minor chipping and creasing to edges and spine foot and head. Two small holes on the spine just above the author's name do not obscure any of the lettering. The outer binding of this leather-bound book shows many signs of wear over the last 340 years, but the hinges are firm and intact. Endpapers are heavily toned and there are some light pencil scrawls on REP's (child scribbling?). Some end papers have small tears and creases. Published by the long-time printing firm, Thomas Newcomb for another London printer, Joseph Hindmarsh, at the "Black Bull in Cornhill, near the Royal Exchange." Seneca was a Stoic philosopher of Ancient Rome, a statesman and dramatist.
