Adam Hodgson's "Remarks During a Journey Through North America" is a collection of 20 letters recounting expeditions from 1819 through 1821. During these years, Hodgson encounters Native American Indian tribes including the Creeks, Chocktaw, Chickasaw, and Cherokee Indians (Field). In addition to Indians, this work is an excellent source on slavery. One letter in particular discusses the financial benefit of slave labor and the exponential costs of emancipation!

Purple boards with black leather spine. Gilt titling and cartouche of nude at center on front panel is still in very nice shape but stamped titling is no longer visible on the black leather spine. Gift inscription by someone other than the author on the front endpaper makes mention of "the Crows Nest" and has dated his entry 1930. 160 pages. 5 5/8 X 8 3/8.

Reproduces all the surviving photographs of Lincoln, arranging them in chronological order and augmenting them with passages from Lincoln's letters and speeches and selected writings of his contemporaries. Black cloth with gilt spine titles, marbled endpapers. Mild fade to the cloth, internally pristine - bright, no markings in very good dust jacket with a closed tear at the heel, minor edgewear. . 1st. Hard. Near Fine/Very Good. Folio.

Cincinnati: Published for Subscribers / Whetstone & Buxton, Printers, 1829. Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. 610 pages. Hardcover bound in original full leather. The binding is quite worn but holding. Front hinge is heavily rubbed and is starting. The spine is slightly curved inward. Marbled endpapers. Front flyleaf a little loosened. Outside edges of the text block show heavy wear. The text is foxed but the text block is sound. Illustrated with 6 engraved plates, including a folding frontis plate (HALF OF THE FOLDING FRONTIS IS MISSING). This book was reprinted throughout several years, and most copies appear to have some plates missing or no plates at all. We have not seen any copies with more than 6 plates, but some later printings appear to have some plates (Alexander Hamilton and Nathaneal Greene) which do not appear in this edition. No author is given on the title page, but this work is attributed to Amos Blanchard.

With black debossed border, corner lines and four bands and gold gilt text to the spine, the brown hardbound cloth boards are in very good condition. There is creasing to the top and bottom of the back strip with light wear and only light wear along the bottom boards. The corners are all sharp with only the slightest touch of wear. Slight cosmetic blemishes to the front and rear boards. Spine is straight with no cracking at the endpapers. The overall text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Age tanning throughout. Previous owner name written on the front endpaper. All interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or other previous owner marks. Fully illustrated with numerous engravings, from designs by W. Croome and other artists. It is also stated "with Additions and Corrections" which might indicate a previous edition (although no prior edition found) or publication in periodicals, etc.

Murray, Undersecretary of the Department of Commerce for Transportation from 1953-1955 "in appreciation of his outstanding public service" and dated Dec. 17, 1954. Straight, tight and clean with no markings, slight spine-end and corner wear, spine titles worn, a few tiny spots to rear cover. A complete history of the first century of this important transportation system servicing the Eastern seaboard and points further west. Illustrated throughout with black-&-white photographs of historic scenes and vintage locomotives including the Alliance, the Monocacy, and the Conewago.

Henry Morgenthau, Sr. (18656-1946) served as the United States Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire during World War I, under President T. Woodrow Wilson had a successful career as a lawyer, real estate investor, and the Reform Jewish community leader in New York City.This work by Morgenthau is the definitive account of the Armenian Genocide during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, as well as his views on the creation of a Jewish State. His son, Henry Morgenthau Jr. served as the Secretary of the Treasury for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His grandson, Robert M. Morgenthau, would serve as the District Attorney for Manhattan for 35 years.
