Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Attractively bound in period-style (but modern) 3/4 brown calf over marbled boards, spine decorated in gilt with black morocco label (text has browning, marginal smudges and some staining). In 'The Spirit of Liberty,' Allen (writing under the pseudonym 'Junius') called for preservation of England's constituion and liberties, in part through restoring then-reformer John Wilkes (known for his support of the rights of American colonists) to Parliament, which is then followed by a substantial discussion of baptism. Laid-in are photocopies of two newspaper articles from 1974 and 1979 relating the story of the final family owners of the property and their eventual sale of the farm and liquidation of the stock and machinery.

With black debossed border, corner lines and four bands and gold gilt text to the spine, the brown hardbound cloth boards are in very good condition. There is creasing to the top and bottom of the back strip with light wear and only light wear along the bottom boards. The corners are all sharp with only the slightest touch of wear. Slight cosmetic blemishes to the front and rear boards. Spine is straight with no cracking at the endpapers. The overall text block is solid with all pages firmly attached. Age tanning throughout. Previous owner name written on the front endpaper. All interior pages are clean with no tears, cracks, or other previous owner marks. Fully illustrated with numerous engravings, from designs by W. Croome and other artists. It is also stated "with Additions and Corrections" which might indicate a previous edition (although no prior edition found) or publication in periodicals, etc.
