Description:
1925 Thomas Paine Life & Work Thomas EDISON Patriot edition Common Sense 10v SET

"Whatever is my right as a man is also the right of another."
– Thomas Paine, Rights of Man

Thomas Paine's political activism in the late 18th-century was vitally important to many of the successes of the American Revolution. He was responsible for some of the most important propaganda pamphlets at the start of the war which inspired American rebels in 1776. 'Common Sense' alone is considered the all-time best American pamphlet, in fact, John Adams is known to have said "without the pen of the author of 'Common sense,' the sword of Washington would have been raised in vain.'

In 1925, an impressive printing of the life and works of Paine was published in New Rochelle, New York. Notably, this edition was edited by famed scientist Thomas Edison.

Description:
1852 Washington Irving SIGNED Knickerbocker History New York Darley Illustrated
"as far as I have observed, I am fully satisfied that man, if left to himself, would about as readily go right as wrong."
― Washington Irving, History of New York
"A History of New York" was Washington Irving's first attempt at satirical writing. He achieved it. His alter-ego, Diedrich Knickerbocker, narrates this history of New York, but fabricates facts and alters or ignores important information of the New World metropolis. The fictional story takes place in the 17th-century and concludes with New York (or New Amsterdam) falling to the British in 1664. It is because of the success of this work, and the ensuing popularity of Irving's pseudonym that Manhattan residents are called 'Knickerbockers'.
This 1852 edition includes impressive illustrations by Felix Darley.

1857 SLAVERY & SLAVE TRADE 1ed African American ABOLITIONIST Blake Africa RARE

W. O. Blake's 'The History of Slavery and the Slave Trade' is a comprehensive compilation detailing slavery's historical reach, from ancient societies like Greece and Rome to modern eras. It uncovers overlooked hereditary slavery in England, examines slavery's impact on empire decline, delves into its role in U.S. politics and law, and challenges prevailing views on ancient slavery's forms and effects. The book also exposes the brutalities of the 19th-century slave trade and argues against slavery's ethical and legal grounds, emphasizing its contradiction with human rights and morality. The book focuses a significant portion to 'modern' American slavery and slave trade focusing on the annexation of Texas and the Missouri Compromise.
Chapters include:
· Slaves of Sparta, Crete, Thessaly, Slavery in Rome;
· Christian slavery in Northern Africa;
· Early opponents of African slavery in England and… Read More
