Barnabas Shaw was a 19th-century English missionary who is best-remembered for his voyage to South Africa. After arriving in Cape Town in 1816, he established a Wesleyan mission designed to help and teach slaves and indigenous tribes. Much of his experiences were reported in his book 'Memorials of South Africa' – an impressive work. This book has become one of the best works describing local tribes such as the Hottentots, Corannas, Namaquas, Kaffirs, and many others.
