Samuel Griswold Goodrich was an American author, better known under the pseudonym Peter Parley. Goodrich wrote a number of historical works – works on United States history, natural history, and history of animals. However, he also wrote a lesser known work on the history of Asia.

Humayun was a 16th-century Persian emperor of the Mughal Empire known for ruling over portions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Persian author Aftabaji Jouher wrote a biographical sketch of the life and military exploits of Humayun, a work which focuses heavily on his rivals including Sher Shah Suri, better known as Sher Khan.

This 1832 English translation of Jauhar's "Memoirs of Humayun" was translated by Charles Stewart, bound in fine leather, marbled boards.

Melchior Yvan's "History of the Insurrection in China" is a rare, 19th-century account of the Taiping Rebellion and the events that led to the Chinese civil war. Yvan offers descriptions of the Kouang-Toung Revolt, the effects of the insurrection in Hai-Nan and the Hou-Nan Provinces, revolts in Formosa, the organization of the Five Kings' insurgent army, and the eventual diplomatic breakthroughs between China and Europe.

This fine 1853 first American edition contains the huge, folding map which is expected of this printing.

William Robertson was a notable 18th-century Scottish historian, and, according to Humphreys, 'made significant contributions to the writing of Scottish history and the history of Spain and Spanish America.' While Robertson was most known for his histories of America and Great Britain, he also published an historical account of India.

In this work, 'An Historical Disquisition Concerning the Knowledge of India', Robertson explored the commercial and cultural connections India had with the West through the end of the 15th-century. According to Stewart Brown, this work
"represents one of the more significant achievements of the late Scottish Enlightenment."
