1841 Hunchback of Notre Dame de Paris Victor Hugo French Literature Quasimodo

"Nothing makes a man so adventurous as an empty pocket."
― Victor Hugo, The Hunchback of Notre Dame

The best-known and oft-considered greatest French writer is unarguably Victor Hugo. His romance novels and stories have withstood the test of language and time. One of Hugo's most popular stories is 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' – a tale of a gypsy who catches the hearts of men including a hunchback named Quasimodo. This work has been transformed into dozens of stage, film, and television adaptations.

1896 LITTLE WOMEN Louisa May Alcott Clara M. Burd Illustrated March Sisters

Louisa May Alcott's classic novel, "Little Women" chronicles the lives of the four March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—as they navigate the challenges of growing up during the Civil War era in the United States. The story explores themes such as family, love, friendship, and personal growth.

This charming two-part tome is based on the Roberts 1880 edition and includes the delightful artwork of Frank Thayer Merrill. Description:
Bobbs-Merrill Company. 1926. First Edition in aged hunter green cloth boards with embossed red lettering on front board and spine.(see photos). Paper is age-toned without foxing. Unclipped ($2.00) jacket is bright orange on front with sunned spine commonly seen on other copies. Jacket had paper loss on front (upper right and lower left-see photos) and several small chips on margins. Jacket protected with removable mylar cover.
Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933) wrote the series of Charlie Chan detective novels with The Chinese Parrot being the second in the series and seemingly the most popular. The story involves two mysterious deaths, the first being the parrot. End of story? I think not. The book was adapted for film twice, as The Chinese Parrot (1927) and as Charlie Chan's Courage (1934). Both films are considered lost films so we're left with the book to solve the mystery of the Chinese Parrot. 5x7.5 in. 316 pg.
