1793 Diderot Encyclopedia Plates TOBACCO Sugar Plantations Silk Weaving Plumbing
Through the mid-18th-century, large collections of knowledge were relegated to specific areas of study like law, medicine, or religion. However, Denis Diderot's 'Encyclopedie'
changed the public's knowledge base as well as setting a standard for future generations of acquiring knowledge on many different subjects. This was the first encyclopedia to include contributions from many different named writers. It also was the first encyclopedia to describe work-related topics like agriculture, engineering, cooking, and trade.
One of the aspects that made this work so desirable was the incredible, detailed full-page engravings. In fact, the illustrations themselves were so sought-after that they were of published on their own apart from the encyclopedia.
This volume of 'De Planches', or the plates from Diderot's encyclopedia include some of the following engravings:

Regensburg, Germany: Zacharias Romberg, 1745. 12 7/8" by 8 1/2 inches on a a sheet measuring 15 3/4" X 9 3/8". Original hand-colored engraving with mezzotint on hand-made laid paper. From PHYTANTHOZA ICONOGRAPHIA, edited by the pharmacist and botanist Johann Wilhelm Weinmann (1683-1741), published 1737-1745 and referenced on page 151 of Sitwell's GREAT FLOWER BOOKS. More than half of the plates were drawn by Georg Dionysius Ehret, perhaps the most notable botanical illustrator of the 18th century; they were engraved by Bartholomew Seuter, Johann Elias Ridinger, and Johann Jakob Haid. This engraving, like the other plates in this monumental and scarce work, is characterized by a more realistic depiction than was found in earlier herbals. The print is clean and bright, with a few spots of foxing in the image's background as well as several faint smudges limited to the blank margins.. First Edition. Single Sheet. Very Good+. Description:
1680 1ed Scottish Morison BOTANY Plantarum Plants Classification Science FOLIOS

Robert Morison was a 17th-century Scottish botanist best-known for his book 'Plantarum Umbelliferarum Distributio Nova'. This book was an enormous work and one of best books of botany from the 17th-century. The successes of the 1672 'Plantarum' propelled Morison to write 'Plantarum Universalis Oxoniensis', which became his magnum opus. Sadly, Morison was never able to finish this work before his death. This book was written to describe fifteen classes of his botanical classification system. A second (or third overall volume) was published later to include the final sections not covered in the first tome.
