RARE. [ With the bookplate of Kenneth Lazenby, a founding member of The Apine Garden Society.]. First Edition. Full-Leather. Good.

The Half-Moon over against St Dunstan's Church: Tho. Woodward, 1724. Illustrated with three folding engraved plates, commendation leaf, title page, pp (22), 333 (though actually 332), (14) + three page bookseller's advertisement, the largest plate has several splits at the folds but there is no loss, slight age-toning internally but otherwise clean and sound, contemporay calf blind-stamped, unlettered spine, some rubbing, wear, scuffs and marks but still very sound and with an attractive patina. [Blanche Henrey 1413 - mentioning the gap in pagination.]. {Switzer, c.1683 - 1745, was a nurseryman,seedsman and garden designer. A sound practical gardener and an early advocate of naturalistic gardening - "If the Beauties of Nature were not corrupted by Art, gardens would be much more valuable".}. First Edition. Full Leather. Illustrated with line drawings in the text, octavo, pp xx, 224, slight age-toning, otherwise clean and sound internally, original buckram very slightly worn, the spine faded. From the library of the Kew botanist Jan Gillett, with his private library number on the spine and on the front endpaper. [Gillett was a notable authority on tropical African botany.]. First Edition. Illustrated, thick octavo, pp xvi, 328, lacking the map which appears never to have been present, the hinge at the title page is cracking but not weak, extensive pencil notes on the rear endpaper (as these are interesting I have left them, however they would erase with a rubber if required), otherwise extemely clean internally, black cloth very slightly rubbed and worn, the rear cover faintly marked, but overall a much better than average copy. . First Edition. Cloth. Good.

Stockholm: Laurentii Salvii, 1745. First edition. Small octavo, pp (2), xii, (4), 420, a folding plate at the rear [Linnaea] a bit marked and stained, a long tear at one of the folds but no loss of the printed surface, a little age-toned throughout, edges marbled, a little closely trimmed so there is very occasional very slight cropping of the head-word, otherwise very firm tight and sound internally, an unidentified contemprary signature on the title page (see illustration), a tiny signature on the front endpaper - S. Soderlund ? - and a tiny bookseller's label - J.W. Levin, Upsala; bound in a later Victorian green pebble cloth, blind-stamped decoration in very good condition. RARE. [ This was the first full account of the plants growing in Sweden and one of the first examples of the Flora in the modern idiom. . First Edition. Cloth. Good.

A few illustrations (mainly of seeds or flower structure, some distribution maps, thick octavo, blue cloth in very good condition, the dustwrappers are just slightly worn and with age-toned spines, but overall a very good set of this master-work, lacking only the last supplementary volume.
