The First American edition of Frank's groundbreaking approach to documentary photography. This edition appeared one year after the publication of the French edition which does not feature Kerouac's introduction. Stuart Alexander, who produced an extensive bibliography on Frank, states that as many as 2600 copies of this edition may have been printed but the book was remaindered before half of the edition had been sold.

24 leaves of full page illustrations by Harry Clarke. Rear hinge cracked near bottom edge, some discoloration to vellum, foxing to front and rear endpapers and several leaves at front of book, contents and plates very clean. Number 68 of 170 copies numbered and signed by Clarke.

inscribed by Struss in felt pen to Will Connell and dated 1978.
Catalogue of travelling exhibition of Struss' still photography made before and during his early career as a cinematographer in Hollywood. The catalogue is inscribed to the son of Southern California photographer Will Connell who worked with Struss as a member of the Camera Pictorialists of Los Angeles in the 1920s and 30s. Laid in is a prospectus for a portfolio of platinum prints by Struss published in 1979.
