Description:
1829. Signed Aug. Edouart fecit and dated 1829 lower left. 11 x 7-1/4 inches. Matted. Signed Aug. Edouart fecit and dated 1829 lower left. 11 x 7-1/4 inches. Augustin Amant Edouart was a French-born portrait artist who began making silhoutte portraits in London in 1825. In 1829 he moved to Edinburgh, where he worked for three years before traveling in the United States and then moving back to France. Edouart's silhouttes, cut out from black paper by hand, are held by collections such as the National Portrait Gallery in London, the National Galleries of Scotland, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. His work has been included in several leading exhibitions on silhouettes as an art form. This fine example of Edouart's work shows a man in a top hat carrying a thin straight cane, followed by a small dog with short legs. The workmanship gives a sense of motion, and the glint of white at the man's collar is striking in an otherwise near-solid figure. Provenance: Kennedy Galleries, Inc., New York

Description:
Longmans, Green & Co. London. 1907. FIRST EDITION. First printing. Large 8vo. (8.5 x 6.4 inches). Colour frontis, 22 full page mono plates and hundreds of small engraved vignettes to the margins of the text pages, all by E. Caldwell. This is the scarce first issue with the margin drawings of a dung beetle pushing his load with his front legs rather than his back on pages 65, 337 and 457. These were changed in later issues. Some feint offsetting to the blank endpapers and a few pages with some minor spotting but generally a very bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original dark green cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and the spine. The board edges are lightly rubbed and the gilt just a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this scarce first edition.

Description:
Haarlem & Rotterdam, 1847. Delightful album in the form of a small cloth covered box. Inside a folded decorative inner envelope, containing a selection of original artwork and keepsakes. In total there are 21 original miniature artworks. Comprising: one double size folded original pencil drawing with tissue guard, and eight other lovely pencil drawings. Also six colour original watercolours - all but one of exquisite flowers. One sepia scene of two hunters. And two watercolours done on rice paper. Also two delightful examples of cross stitch and one decoupage, all in flower designs. There is also one pinprick flower design, which is very intricate and skillfully done. There are three handwritten ink notes inside - all in Dutch. One of the notes signed C. Gleichman, talks approximately: "when you are in Haarlem, you will certainly get other girlfriends, but I hope that you will not forget the Rotterdamische". The other two notes are signed J. Doeleman (Jacobus Doeleman) sent to to his pupil Cornelia… Read More
