Description:
1751 Paolo Sarpi History of the Council of Trent Catholic Roman Curia Protestant

Paolo Sarpi was a 16th-century Italian historian who is best known for his book 'History of the Council of Trent'. First published in 1619, this book focused on the administrative institutions of the Holy See, mainly the Roman Curia. And while the book was written to discuss the Catholic Church, it was mainly read by Protestants. In fact, British historian Denys Hay call it a "kind of Anglican picture of the debates and decisions" of the Catholic church.

Worth noting, Paolo Sarpi was a friend and scientific correspondent with Galileo Galilei.

Notizie Anecdote.
Italy (Naples?), 1759.
4°, 8 pp. Manuscript in black ink in a notarial hand on 18th century paper.
Ruthlessly anti-Jesuit manuscript, possibly by Bernardo Tanucci: prime minister of Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The text summarizes the events involving the Jesuits in the years 1755-1759, from the controversy over the Paraguayan Missions to the trials for the assassination of Joseph I of Portugal. This autograph is not signed but clues to the identity of the author can be found in a rare 1759 published analysis of the contents of this manuscript, titled Sposizione letteral delle notizie anecdote giustificative della condotta de' MM. RR. PP. Gesuiti nel Paraguai, e nel Portogallo per aggiungere al loro manoscritto di Napoli (Barcelona [= Naples?], Antonio Michele Cervellò). 1788 Life of Frederick II of Prussia Germany WARS Austria Politics 4v Laveaux

"The first object in the establishment of an army ought to be making provision for the belly, that being the basis and foundation of all operations
– Frederick the Great

Frederick II was the most famous King of Prussia, notable for his 46 years of reign. He served and ruled over Brandenburg-Prussia and was as significant force in the Wars of Polish and Austrian Succession. Frederick himself invited French historian Jean-Charles Laveaux to embark on a substantial work on the history of the Prussian monarchy (of course, Frederick II was the most important facet of that monarchy).

This time spent with Frederick II allowed Laveaux to publish three different works surrounding the life and reign of Frederick II. 'Life of Frederick II, King of Prussia' includes documents, speeches, anecdotes, and first-hand experiences covering the life and eventual death of 'Old Fritz'.

George Ridpath was a 17th-century Scottish author following the Glorious Revolution. As a prominent Whig apologist, Ridpath published many of his more controversial works under the pseudonym Will Laick, including his attacks on the Scottish episcopal party. Oliver Cromwell was one of the most famous and important 17th-century English military leaders during the English Civil War. His life, political career, military acumen, and historical impact have been written about and recorded for centuries. English author John Bancks published an account of Cromwell's political influence in his "Short Critical Review of the Political Life of Oliver Crowmell".
