London: Effingham Wilson, 1834. x and 126 pages. Plan of Oporto, 32 plates. Publisher's green cloth; the front cover has some damp staining though without carrythrough to the endpapers; the text and plates are good and clean and the binding is tight. Thomas Knight was a veteran of the Rifle Brigade into which he enlisted in 1812. He was working at Chatham when he was recruited for the service of the Queen of Portugal.

London: Ward and Lock, 1857 second thousand. An exceptionally good copy in the publisher's lilac wrappers printed in black; short tears are beginning to develop along the sides of the spine but they don't detract from the appearance of this remarkably early original paperback binding. Lectures delivered in Canterbury - personal recollections of the Crimea and a sketch of Montenegro and its history. In 1858 Wright was to write an outspoken pamphlet, England's Duty to England's Army, addressed to the Secretary of State in which he suggested many reforms in the terms and conditions of service.(For other books about the Crimean War please search my stock using the keyword crimean.)

Edited from the lectures and writings of the late Major C. Adams, professor of Military History at the Royal Military and Staff Colleges. Red cloth binding with blindstamped borders on front and back covers and gilt titles on spine, gray end papers. Spine darkened with chip in upper edge affecting part of titles, tear in cloth of spine, spotting, cloth split at spine edges, part of cloth missing at base of spine, corners bumped and frayed, spotting of cover, edge wear, former owner's name "O. B. Mitchall, Lieut. of Ordnance, received August 8th, 1884," interior pages a little tanned at edges, binding tight.

Clement Walker, better known by his pseudonym Theodore Verax, was a 17th-century English politician best known for his monumental work 'The History of Independency'. This book, which consisted of numerous treatises, was written to outline the fallacies and myths of religious factionalism in England. Walker discusses various rulings in the House of Commons but primarily those pertaining to the English Civil War.
The second part of History of Independency, entitled 'Anarchia Anglicana', was published in 1649 immediately following the execution of King Charles I. Note the significant records of Oliver Cromwell throughout this work.
This 1649 first edition includes the Appendix to the first part, which was published the year prior.

Thomas Fuller was a 17th-century English historian who particularly notable for his historical accounts of English worthies and the Church of England. In 1639, Fuller wrote 'History of the Holy War' – a popular book on the Crusades, taken from several notable and accurate accounts. It is curious though, Fuller wrote this work with an incredible amount of wit and humor, so much so that he included stories unrelated to the Crusades just to fill pages! According to Tyerman,
"Thomas Fuller's 'History of the Holy Warre is one of the more interesting histories of the crusades written by an Englishman."
