1682 LAW 1ed Life of Matthew Hale England English Civil War Dissenters Burnett
Matthew Hale was a 17th-century English judge who was an influential figure in the legal proceedings against offenses to the royal crown in England. Author Gilbert Burnett published the best account of life of Hale – a biography which covers the entirety of Hale's young life through his judicial career and eventual death. Curiously, Burnet gives special attention to Hale's sympathy toward dissenters, which was particularly interesting considering the climate at the height of the English Civil War.

Description:
1620 Medieval Louis XI King of France Jean de Roye Hundred Years War Charles VII

Louis XI of France was the King of France during the mid-15th-century and was best known for his intense political conspiracies. One of his most important military events was battle and subsequent isolation of Charles the Bold, the Duke of Burgundy, in which Louis signed the Treaty of Picquigny ending the Hundred Years' War – a pact that ultimately ended the dukes of Burgundy dynasty.

The life of Louis XI is best portrayed by French author Jean de Roye in his "Chronicle of Louis XI". De Roye was a 15th-century chronicler whose 'History' encompasses the entirety of Louis XI's reign.

1694 SCOTLAND 1ed Ridpath Scots Episcopal Innocence Scottish Treason Politics

George Ridpath was a 17th-century Scottish author following the Glorious Revolution. As a prominent Whig apologist, Ridpath published many of his more controversial works under the pseudonym Will Laick, including his attacks on the Scottish episcopal party. One work from these attacks was his "Scots Episcopal Innocence" – a short pamphlet identifying the failures of the party, accusations of treason, and the disloyalty of the Scottish clergy and their disregard for the Order of the State, King William, and Queen Mary.

Description:
1791 PROVENANCE 1ed Marshal Richelieu SIGNED Seven Years War Austrian Succession
Louis Vignerot du Plessis was an 18th-century French diplomat, better-known for serving as the 3rd Duke of Richelieu. After serving the War of Austrian Succession and the Seven Years War, Richelieu became the Marshal of France under Louis XIV. An extensive biography of his life was published in 1791 by Louis Faur. However, more than describing his political and military careers, Faur's "Vie privée du maréchal de Richelieu" describes Richelieu's private life, more specifically his relationships with women. It contains many original letters and private memoirs providing great insight to the life of Richelieu outside of his public life.
This first edition, three-volume set includes a handwritten letter signed by Louis François Armand de Vignerot du Plessis, 3rd Duke of Richelieu! Additionally, the set was later owned by the esteemed physicist and Nobel Prize winner, Louis Victor Pierre Raymond, 7th Duc de Broglie!

"He who stops being better stops being good."
– Oliver Cromwell

Oliver Cromwell was one of the most famous and important 17th-century English military leaders during the English Civil War. His life, political career, military acumen, and historical impact have been written about and recorded for centuries. English author John Bancks published an account of Cromwell's political influence in his "Short Critical Review of the Political Life of Oliver Crowmell". While it focuses primarily on Cromwell's politics, it includes his influence in the English Civil Wars, particularly after the death of the king. Bancks also describes the state of Ireland during Cromwell's lifetime.
