Very good, with a heavy bump at the top of the spine, and some soiling to the cream cloth covers ( including a couple of blue spots on the front, and 4 small ink scribbles on the back). The gilt title lettering is still quite bright. Light foxing to front endpaper.Internally very good, The full page Aldin drawings all fine. This first edition was limited to 250 copies signed by both the author and illustrator. Printed at the Curwen Press. A presentable copy of an increasingly uncommon Aldin title..

Very good, with light bumping to extremities, a short, superficial split at top of front spine fold, a small circle of sticker residue right knee of ball striker ( probably removeable ), and the usual rectangular tanning to endpapers. A few minor traces of finger soiling within. Still a sound copy in original, unadulterated binding. The jacket has some edgewear, and a long closed tear that is taped internally, and has leached through to the front. ( see photos ). A very presentable copy, in the scarce jacket..

1881 George Cruikshank Comic ART Almanack Caricature Thackeray Illustrated Humor

George Cruikshank was one of England's best and most notable 19th-century caricaturists and book illustrators.

The 'Comic Almanack' is a collection of 19th-century tales and poems etched by George Cruikshank. This work includes the works of famed authors such as Thackeray, Albert Smith, the Brothers Mayhew, Robert Brough and Gilbert A'Beckett.
"In 1835 Cruikshank issued the first number of the 'Comic Almanack,' with a dozen 'right merrie' cuts (etchings) 'pertaining to the months' by himself, and a few minor embellishments. Sometimes the letterpress was supplied by distinguished contributors. To the issue for 1839 Thackeray contributed 'Stubb's Calendar, or the Fatal Boots,' to be followed in 1840 by 'Barber Cox, and the Cutting of his Comb,' afterwards called 'Cox's Diary.'" (DNB).
This undated edition contains hundreds of illustrations, many of which are folding.

Very well illustrated with many colour plates and hundreds of black and white images all from photographs, quarto, pp (4), 352, rear hinge cracking, front hinge weak and with the preliminary pages becoming loose, fore-edge foxed, otherwise clean internally, ornate pictorial boards, a little worn, age-toned and marked, cloth spine. RARE. One of the most lavish of nursery catalogues. This volume was dedicated to Gertrude Jekyll, and contains a short printed preface by her. [ James Kelway was born in 1815, and became a gardener like his father, William. At the age of 18 James was appointed as Head Gardener on the Dillington estate, near Ilminster, which was being revamped by its new owner, James Lee Lee. Cream and orange cloth binding, with title and South Durham Cargo Fleet Steel stamped on the covers. Cards are slightly marked. Each titled on the tissue-guard. Titled tissue-guards are present for all 16 lithographs. Some of the tissue guards have very light folds, and the lithographs themselves are in near fine condition. Viva Talbot's importance as an industrial artist of great talent has largely been forgotten, but her unprecedented access to the British steel industry, primarily through her family connections, enabled her to achieve a degree of accuracy and depth that provides valuable historical, industrial, and artistic insight. Her recent small popularity has largely been empowered by the rediscovery of her talent and ability by Dr. Joan Heggie of Teesside University. Scarce.

'Adam's Diary', first published in 1904, was Twain's comedic and satirical take on the Book of Genesis. It was filled with illustrations by Strothmann; however, most of them were considered pornographic in nature when it was first published in the United States.

Complete with 21 fine full page wood cut engravings showing Aufseeser's remarkable Modernist style, akin to a tapestry pattern using puzzle shapes to form the image. A bright, tight near fine copy in publishers grey paper covered boards with black line illustration and lettering to front board, the rear left plain. Grey cloth spine with minor rubbing and wear to top and bottom. Neat two line inscription on front blank endpaper but overall a lovely example of this, the artist's very rare first book. An interesting set of illustrations by the influential designer and artist Aufseeser (1880-1940), an important figure in the development of the modernism movement. A rare book. Only five physial copies listed on Worldcat, 3 in German Libraries and two in the USA, at Princeton and The New York Public Library.

One of only 4 copies, on Japon, with extra suites of the 1st state proofs and the 2nd state proofs and the original copper plate used for the etching on page 7. Numbered from II to V. This is copy number IV. From a total edition of 147. With 16 drypoint engravings printed in blue by Louis Icart of which 5 full page and 11 in-text. The etchings were printed by French masterprinter Manuel Robbe. The 32 full page 1st and 2nd state proofs are printed in black. All prints protected by tissue guards. Loose folded sheets in wrappers with silver title. In publishers marbled chemise and slipcase. 23 text pages. Sheets measure 29 x 21,5 cm. Extremely rare copy with the extra suites and the original copper plate. Spine of chemise a bit sun faded, lightest wear to corner tips of slipcase. A very fine copy in collectors condition. .
