1680 Sir Francis Bacon English ESSAYS Political Philosophy Law Good Evil Clark

"Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly."
― Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon was one of the most famous English philosophers and scientists of the Renaissance. While most of his work deals with discovery, scientific method, and the scientific revolution, he did lean strongly toward Puritanism in his personal devotion.

'The Essays' of Bacon was a collection of personal theories covering a wide variety of topics dealing with human emotion such as death, revenge, parenting, marriage vs single life, love and envy, atheism vs religion, nobility, wealth and riches, gardening, social factions, anger, and many more. 'The Essays' was the origin to many well-known proverbs and aphorisms such as:
"If the Hill will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet will go to the hill". ('Of Boldness')
This 1680 edition of 'The Essays' contains 58 essays as well as Bacon's works:

1595 Schneidewein SAXON LAW Institutionum Imperialium Charles V Martin Luther

Johann Schneidewein was a 16th-century German lawyer best-known for studying with Martin Luther. His magnum opus was a commentary on law institutions, "Institutionum Imperalium Justiniani". In this work, Schneidewein discussed common law, canonic law, imperial recesses, court orders from the court of Charles V, codes of Protestant doctrine, and even Saxon law. Schneidewein never saw the work published during his lifetime, but it would see countless editions over the centuries, including this impressive folio printing from 1595. This particular edition contains edits from Pieter Brederode and Denis Godefroy.
