Book has aged and has shelfwear along spine gutter wherein the cloth at the top 2 inches has separated and frayed a bit on either side of the spine, otherwise not too much wear. Sunning to spine plate, and all exterior cloth has yellowed somewhat, very light soiling exists. Boards are slightly bowed vertically, but binding is decent overall. A small ink name appears at the top of the front free end paper. Pages inside are tanning. Overall Fair condition.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Book.

Former owner's stamp on front fixed endpaper: Folwell Legendre, Hammond, La. Former owner name at head of vol. 1 title page: W. Ransom. Joseph Addison (1672-1719), English essayist, playwright, and poet, is best remembered for his contributions to The Tatler and The Spectator. In Very Good Condition: boards are slightly rubbed; one folded leaf is starting to separate at fold; frontispieces, title pages, and first few pages are somewhat foxed; otherwise, clean and tight.

A complete set of the 12 issues of the 1900 printing of the famed 'Strand Magazine'. Author Arthur Conan Doyle helped popularize the periodical by including stories from his now famous detective Sherlock Holmes, which appeared in Strand in 1891. While this 1900 edition does not feature Sherlock Holmes, it does feature other Doyle works such as 'Playing with Fire', as well as Rudyard Kipling's "For a Wounded Soldier".

First appearing in periodicals, Herman Melville's most famous work saw an initial mix of responses on its way to becoming one of the great American novels. The books rise to fame even caused authors like William Faulkner stating that he wished he had written the book himself. While the work itself is a story of hunting the great whale Moby Dick, it is written with themes regarding social class, good and evil, and the existence of God.

This valuable 1930 American edition, or, the first Kent edition, was published by Random House and includes famous illustrations by the beloved artist, Rockwell Kent. The Kent illustrated editions are considered the best 'Moby Dick' printings and are known to have helped propel 'Moby Dick' to the classic status it holds today.
