Michaelis to blank area of printed title. *This is the first Latin translation by the medical student Abraham Blasius of the 'Heel-en Geneeskonstige Aanmerkingen' of the Dutch physician Job van Meek'ren, illustrated by cases from his own patients. Four leaves have 2mmx10mm paper faults to fore edge and 8 leaves with marginal damp mark not touching text. An entire and particularly crisp clean copy with good margins, strong paper and no underlining/marginalia of these well illustrated medical observations.

Contemporary half dark brown calf, spine richly gilt decorated "á la grotesque", gilt lettered red Morocco label (small tear [ca. 3 cm.] in the gutter of the front side). A nice copy of the first edition of both works. There are 4 later editions, the last in 1805. The author, "ancien chirurgien-major de la Marine" was a great advocate of catheterisation. According to a contemporary review, the work on urology has some interesting point of views, but written in a horible style. In both work Guérin strongly oposite quackery and urge the public not to deal with charlatans. Rare. Hirsch II, 688; Dezeimeris II/1, 656; Wellcome III, 175.

Gandavi,: Typis Judoci Begyn,, 1786 (= 1787).. [10], 466, [ii]; [iv], 44, [iv] pp. 4to (20 x 24.5 cm.). Recent half brown morocco, spine with 5 raised bands; marbled boards. ¶ An interesting municipal pharmacopoea, published by order of the Collegium Medici Gandensis under the editorship of the pharmacists J. de Bever, A.D. Goormachtigh, G. van den Haute, and J. de Vos. The popolar names of the Materia Medica also give in Dutch. This was the last of a series of the municipal pharmacopoeasof Gent. The first was published in 1653 as 'Antidotarium Gandavensis", followed by an edition in 1663, and in 1756 as 'Pharmacopoea Gandavensis'. This is the last municipal pharmacopoea published in Belgium, and new was that the names of the Materia Medica are given in both Latin and Dutch. Today very rare.-- (A number of leaves slightly browned and/or partly foxed).

Partially illegible former owner's inscription on front free endpaper verso and facing blank page dated 1852. A few ink marginal notations in the same hand. A veterinary manual for horses, entirely German, by a Lancaster County horse doctor. In Very Good+ Condition: ends of spine and corners rubbed; some page corners creased; a few marginal notations; some browning; otherwise clean and tight.

Small blue bookseller's label at lower edge of front fixed endpapers of Henry Kimpton, medical bookseller and publisher, London. The monumental contribution to the field of opthamology which made its author, Sir John Herbert Parsons (1868-1957), a recognized world authority. In Very Good- Condition: spines are faded; edges lightly rubbed; vol. 4 head of spine frayed, on others just starting; vol. 3 hinges are starting; pages are clean.

Liverpool: Matthews Brothers, Printers, [c. 1870s]. 64 page pamphlet. Original light blue wrappers printed in black. Engraving depicting the museum on the lower wrapper, 1 engraving within the text. Wrappers rubbed, dulled, and spotted, minor crease to the upper corner slightly affecting the contents. Very good condition. The rare catalogue of the Liverpool Museum of Anatomy, describing in detail the Museum's contents and policies, and illustrating its interior by an engraving on the lower cover. The Liverpool Museum of Anatomy was one of a number of such museums in the UK and US that specialised in wax anatomical models and, unlike many of the museums of professional medical organisations, were open to the public. Though the stated goal was always education, particularly regarding reproduction and the dangers of sexual vice, these museums also traded on the shock or titillation value of their exhibits and some were targeted by the medical establishment as purveyors of vice and quackery. Publisher's catalog of medical publications on final 32 pages. The author, Dr. John Ashhurst (1846-1901), was a surgeon at the Hospital of the Protestant Episcopal Church and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia. From 1877 to 1900 he was Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Very scarce. A heavy book; for international shipping, it will have to be sent by priority international. In Very Good- Condition: edges are rubbed; minor loss at edges of spine label; title page archivally re-attached; occasional minor soiling; otherwise, clean and tight.

Very good complete copy of this last great English medical botany of the 19th century.With 306 fine hand-coloured botanical plates, several double-page, some finished with gum arabic, drawn from nature and lithographed by David Blair. Each dynamic plate filled to the edge with details of the plant's stalk, leaf, fruit, seed, branch and flower.Each plate with several pages of text including description, habitat, collection and commerce, general character and composition, medical properties and uses.Robert Bentley (1821-1893) was an English botanist and pharmacologist. He was professor in botany at King's College from 1859, and became a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 1874. Henry Trimen (1843-1896) was a London-born botanist who became director of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Ceylon (Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka) from 1879-95.
