Dominique Bouhours was a 17th-century Jesuit historian and author known for his treatises on the French language, secrets, and curious humor. He also published a historical account of the life of Pierre d'Aubusson, a 15th-century Hospitaller zealot who radically opposed the Ottomans. Bouhours account is largely considered imaginative since little is known of d'Aubusson's early years; still, though, this work is a fascinating and important look into Knight Hospitaller crusades against the Ottoman Turks in the 1400s. The most important aspect of this book is the overview of the Siege of Rhodes at the gulf of Trianda, whose defense was led by d'Aubusson.

1663 ENGLISH History of Ottoman TURKS Empire Sultans Ahmed II Mehmed IV Moore

Andrew Moore's "Compendious History of the Turks" is a rare, 17th-century history of the Ottoman Empire through the mid-1600s. Moore, an English historian, based much of this work on Richard Knolles' "Generall Historie of the Turkes" in which the kings of the Ottoman Empire of described in detail. This particular tome contains descriptions of kings including Mehmet III, Ahmed I, Mustafa I, Osman II, and Ahmed II. Curiously, Moore refers to the Ottoman's in this work as a "barbarous nation, the world's present terror" in hopes of exposing kingdom warring against the Habsburgs in the mid-17th-century.

1687 Great Turkish WAR 1ed Chronicle Hungary Ottoman Turks Empire Mehmed IV MAPS
In 1683, a series of battles between Ottoman Empire and the Holy Roman Empire turned into what is now known as the Great Turkish War. Much of the war came to a head in 1686 when various Ottoman sieges created more hostility between the two sides. A year later, a Nurnberg-based publishing house produced a chronicle of the events of the war – "Hungarisch-tuerckische Chronick". This 1867 edition contains numerous full-page and folding engravings depicting iconic figures, battle scenes, and charts.

Some pagination errors but complete and this copy with six illustrations not called for, bound in at a later date. Some staining and toning to many pages. Title page with 2 previous owners names and addresses written in ink. You get one antique Babylon Electrified: The History of an Expedition Undertaken to Restore Ancient Babylon By the Power of Electricity and How it Resulted hardcover by A. Bleunard and published by Gebbie & Co., Publishers in Philadelphia in 1889. It is illustrated by Montader and is in English. It measures approximately 9.5 inches long by 7 inches wide. The book is in good condition. The binding is tight and the book is complete with no loose pages. The covers and edges do have some wear. The pages do have foxing, but are clean and free of writing, except for a number 7 written on the title page before the title page. Thereis a tear in the first blank page, as well as the frontispiece. Please see all pictures.

Two-volume study of the historic dwellings and vernacular architecture of Lebanon, in French. Volume one (82 pages) authored by Professor Kalayan of the American University of Beirut; volume two (86 pages) by architect Jacques Liger-Belair. With b&w photos throughout by both Kalayan and Liger-Belair. Liger-Belair's volume is inscribed and signed.
The volumes are in very good shape with only some yellowing in page margins, in endpaper folds, and along the spine. Comes with original cardboard slip cover in fair shape, previously repaired with tape. See images for a better idea of condition.
