Frontispiece portrait in colour, double page map of Sindh, plan of the battle of Meanee, 12 sepia lithographs including 6 views, 2 folding tables. A near fine copy in contemporary half calf gilt. Eastwick believed that the Amirs of Sindh had been betrayed by the British. As a director of the EIC, he was one of Sir Charles Napier's most bitter opponents. London: Simpkin Marshall, 1853. xxvi and 28 pages. Frontispiece coloured lithograph of uniform, engraving of a table centrepiece presented to Lord Grantham. A very good copy in the publisher's blue straight grained cloth with badge and decorations in silver. Beautifully produced little book. The Yorkshire Hussars weren't short of a bob or two. When Earl de Grey and other officers decided that they needed a suitasble mess for their annual training fortnight, they had the de Grey Rooms constructed in York, a building whose front elevation has seven bays. London: T Egerton, 1811 third edition. viii and 371 pages. Folding general map, 6 folding plans. A very good copy in contemporary half calf. The third and best edition is enlarged by 45 pages from the second edition to take in Marmont's retreat from Badajoz in 1811. The extra plate is a plan of Albuera. 1628 Silius Italicus PUNICA Second Punic War Rome Epic Latin Poetry Jansson

The only surviving book of the epic Roman poet Silius Italicus is 'Punica', a fascinating work on the Second Punic War. First written during the late 1st-century, 'Punica' seems to have been modeled after Virgil, Livy, and Homer and follows General Hannibal of Carthage and his military endeavors. Italicus was known for his stoic influence and focuses on concepts such as emotion, reason, and destiny, through the lens of a historical recounting of Roman military leaders Hannibal and Scipio.
This miniature 1628 edition was published in Amsterdam by Jansson with an engraved title page.

A crisp, clean copy, very near fine, in the publisher's navy cloth. Bottom corners bumped, contemporary owner's name on the front free endpaper and again on the title page, else a nice, clean copy, with a few pages unopened. Extremely scarce memoir of this Civil War General from Indiana, who served as aide-de-camp to McClellan at the start of the war, then being elected to Congress, and later serving as Judge Advocate General of the US Army. During his time in the Indiana state Legislature and in the US Congress, he was a vocal opponent of the expansion of slavery into the west, and some of his speeches to that effect are included in this book. This privately printed volume was evidently produced in very small numbers; we count just two holdings in OCLC (Indiana State Library, App. State). Dick & Fitzgerald. New York. 1867. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 9.4 x 6.2 inches). Illustrated with 7 full page portraits, each with a tissue paper guard and 7 full page plans of battles. In the publishers original dark green cloth binding with gilt ruling and lettering to the spine. Boards with double blind ruled borders. Brown coated endpapers. Inner hinges cracked but holding firm. Some rubbing to the edges of the cloth binding but overall a very good copy indeed.

New York, NY: William Morrow and Company, 1961. No DJ. Inscribed and signed by the author on the front flyleaf: "To 'Old Jake;' mentor, friend, master: see if these years of study under thee hath taught me a blessed thing herein-- Clay Fisher 6-3-61." The author is perhaps better known by his real name, Will Henry. Textblock is clean; covers show moderate shelf and handling wear with bumped corners, fading, and soiling. Light foxing with no markings or prior owner attribution. Illustrated throughout with b/w drawings and photos. "The first notice of the organization of the First Ohio Cavalry, is found in a report of the Adjutant General of Ohio for 1861. In his report for that year, the Adjutant General states that, 'on July 21, 1861, after earnest solicitation, authority was received from Washington for raising eight companies, or a regiment of cavalry, directly for the service of the Federal Government. It was determined that this regiment should be one of maximum size, to consist of twelve companies.
