1695 Dutch NAVY Naval Admiral Cornelius Tromp Anglo-Dutch WARS Sea Battles 2v

Cornelius Tromp was a 17th-century Dutch naval admiral who served in the Anglo-Dutch Wars in battles such as the Battle of Leghorn and the Battle of Texel. He has long been considered a Dutch naval hero, which, following his death in 1691 a fascinating account of his life and military career was written by an unknown hand. This work, which some attribute to Tromp himself, is perhaps the best and most accurate account of Tromp's life.

1727 Julius Caesar WAR Commentaries Military Tactics MAPS Bellum Hirtius Davies

"If you must break the law, do it to seize power: in all other cases observe it!"
– Julius Caesar

A rare collection of civil war histories and Julius Caesar war commentaries!

Julius Caesar's war commentaries are some of the most prolific military writings! While not specifically known for his writing, Julius Caesar wrote this book which would become a mainstay in the Latin literature canon. It focuses on first-hand account of Julius Caesar in the Callic wars, but it was written as though from a third-person view.

This 1727 edition was published in Cambridge and includes notes and commentary by Joannes Brantius, Pedro Chacon, Francis Hotman and John Davies. It should be noted that included in this edition is Aulus Hirtius' Bellum Alexandrinum and his continuation of Caesar's De bello Gallico.

Description:
1884 CONFEDERATE General GT Beauregard 1ed Military Operations of Fort Sumter 2v

"The Military Operations of General Beauregard in the War Between the States 1861 to 1865" by Alfred Roman offers a comprehensive and laudatory portrayal of Confederate General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard, the one responsible for ordering the bombardment of Fort Sumter, the opening barrage of the Civil War. Within, Roman emphasizes Beauregard's strategic brilliance in key Civil War battles and his prior military achievements, including his role in the Mexican–American War. Interestingly, Beauregard's tumultuous relationship with President Jefferson Davis is also explored, suggesting that it may have impeded his military utilization. Despite its uncritical tone and Beauregard's personal contributions to the text, this two-volume set provides an informative narrative of the general's varied career, from his impactful military service to his post-war endeavors in civil rights advocacy, railroad management, and the… Read More

Description:
1748 ENGLISH Vauban FORTS Military Engineering Fortifications Illustrated War

Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban was a 17th-century French engineer who, after serving as the Marshal of France, became known as the greatest engineer of his time. It was from his surveys and developments in fortifications that propelled him to engineering fame. In fact, his fortification philosophies were used for nearly a century after his life. Vauban understood that at some point, all forts would fall, no matter how powerful. From this, Vauban sought to improve fort designs to absorb as much of the attack force as possible, even including house and structures to support fortification walls.

This 1748 English edition of Vauban's famous "Method of Fortification" contains each of the highly desirable 32 engravings – views of forts, walls, and common attack strategies.

Description:
Orange cloth binding, Green edging Gilt Lettering. First Edition – A very good copy
The two Boer Wars (1880-1902) pitched British colonial forces against the Dutch Boer settlers in the region of Africa today known as South Africa. The conflict concerned the discovery of gold in the region which threatened to destabilize British control with Germany stalking in the wings; conditions were worsened with Dutch abusive treatment of immigrant gold miners. The British stepped in to regain control and the ensuing warfare took the lives of over 40,000 men, women and children. Following a speech in which Davitt denounced the Second Boer War and the fact Ireland had to pay £10 million to the war effort despite opposing it, Davitt left the Commons for good on 26 October 1899 in protest of "the greatest infamy of the nineteenth century". Obtaining commissions from William Randolph Hearst's New York American and the Irish paper Freeman's Journal, he travelled to South Africa to report on the war and lend support… Read More
