Beautiful book in fine condition, clean and tight, pages very lightly tanned. Dust jacket has very minor edgewear with a couple of very small tears and one slightly larger one which i have repaired so it wldn't go further, the dust jacket is white so it has some light marking esp where it folds over the book, nothing is intrusive however, the d j still looks very good, it does have a crease on the back cover beneath the photo of the author. The Yellow hardcover with the beautiful decorations looks great, but it does have some very minor corner bumps, which again are non obtrusive.

1857 INDIAN Tribes Schoolcraft Native American Wars Nanticoke Amer Revolution HUGE
Henry Rowe Schoolcraft was an early American ethnologist and expert on Native American culture. He was well-known for his Congress-commissioned study on United States Indian tribes beginning in 1851, of which the content was considered 'valuable scholarship' by critics.
In 1847, the United States Congress passed an act which collected the history of Native American Indian tribes, a task which Schoolcraft headed. The final volume of the work proved to be the best as it was regularly published under the title "The American Indians".
Schoolcraft's studies on Indians are considered the most extensive works on Native Americans published in the 19th-century, and, according to Field contain
"a vast mass of really valuable information and has indeed performed a very important service for Indian history, in collecting and preserving an immense amount of historic data. Vocabularies of Indian languages, grammatical analyses,… Read More

Description:
1838 PIONEERS 1ed Far West Western Frontier Exploration Native American INDIANS

"The Far West: or, A Tour Beyond the Mountains" by Edmund Flagg is an exhaustive two-volume account of the author's extensive explorations through Missouri and Illinois during the 19th century. Flagg, a writer, lawyer, and diplomat, presents a tapestry of western life, detailing the stunning landscapes of prairies and rivers, the mysteries of ancient mounds, and the early settlements of the French. Initially, his experiences and observations were written as travelogue sketches and shared with the readers of the Louisville Journal. After receiving positive responses and due to the urging of friends, Flagg decided to compile, revise, and expand these sketches into this comprehensive work. His fascinating book showcases his indebtedness to previous authors who had written about the West, and it serves as a significant contribution to the literature of Western Americana.

1850 INDIANS 1ed Native American Reports Illustrated Moccasins Iroquois New York

The Regents of New York University and the university museum published an annual report cataloging the natural history – animals, birds, fish – of New York. However, these books are much better remembered for the Native American Indian content. This particular 1850 edition includes reports of Iroquois and other Indian tribes from all over America. Lewis Henry Morgan provides a report of Native American Indians which features fine color illustrations of Indian clothing and customs including moccasins, skirts, leggings, dresses, kilts, workbags, needle books, smoking pipes, and swaddling clothes.

Description:
1887 American INDIANS 1ed Prehistoric Tribes Pocahontas Pontiac Columbus Navajo

In 1887, author Eldridge Brooks published one of the best 19th-century accounts of the Native American Indians. While countless other histories of native tribes existed before and since, few were as popular as Brooks'. Not only did Brooks write about the Indians as they were, their customs and culture, their homes and lifestyle, but also a thorough description of ancient peoples in prehistoric times, hunting mylodons and dinornis and their interaction with the megatherium and wooly mammoths.

Other noteworthy topics found in this work include:
· Navajo art, pottery, and baskets
· Impact of Columbus's arrival on native tribes
· Pocahontas and her family
· Pontiac and the Ottowas
· Tecumseh, and the Shawanoe
· Battles between Indians and colonists

Description:
1891 Indian Horrors 1ed Native American Massacres Sitting Bull Illustrated WARS
Henry Northrop's "Indian Horrors" is a supremely biased account of warfare and relationships between Native American Indian tribes and the 'White' settlers from the early 17th-century through the end of the 19th-century. The book appears to have been published shortly after the Battle (or massacre) of Wounded Knee. There is commentary and details on torture, murders, scalping, rape, battles, massacres, and more. Northrop also includes ideas on how to "civilize the savages" and change them of their customs, culture, and military issues.
Northrop himself states in the preface of this work:
"This work embraces a full account of all the memorable Indian wars in the United States, together with a record of terrible personal encounters with the Red Men, hairbreadth escapes, thrilling captures, and bloody massacres."
