VERY SCARCE. [Bigsby was an English physician who became known for his work on geology, an interest developed while on military service in Lower and Upper Canada, during 1818 to 1826. He was a member of the American Philosophical Society. In 1850, he published a lively book, The Shoe and Canoe, recounting his life and travels in British North America, . New York: Frederick A. Stokes, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Presentation copy, inscribed and dated in the year of publication by Wendell Endicott on the front flyleaf. An avid sportsman, Endicott (1880-1954) attended Harvard University (1899-1901) and served as a director of Sears, Roebuck and Company in Chicago during the 1920s and '30s. This book includes his reminiscences of battling the "Silver King" (Atlantic tarpon) and other game fish along the Florida Keys, as well as a selection of fishing facts and suggestions. Octavo: 273 p. with 80 illustrations from photographs by the author. Original dark green cloth-covered boards over a light green spine, with gilt stamping. Just a hint of foxing to the prefatory and concluding pages, with some faint evidence of moisture along the top edge of the last three dozen pages. Tiny period bookseller's label to the front flyleaf. The spine is a touch faded, with some rubbing to the corners and tips; else about very good.

Four volumes, octavo, illustrated with 192 colour plates, some intermittent foxing internally but nowhere too offensive, pages slightly age-toned, each front endpaper has a name neatly cut from the upper corner, and all endpapers have slight sellotape residue markings; red cloth in very good condition with extremely bright gilt lettering on the spines, the dustwrappers are slightly worn and chipped but not price-clipped and each with the publisher's price sticker of 18/-. They are now protected in a removable clear cover. Volume I - the fore-edge is slightly marked. Volume II - a small marginal tear to page viii and a slight mark to the inner margin of page 116. Volume III - slightly more foxing than the other volumes. Volume IV -a slightly open hinge at pages 96/97. Overall a quite attractive set.. New Edition. Cloth. Good/Slightly worn and frayed.

Green cloth, with gilt print on spine. The tail's outer edge is chipped, with loss of cloth, on the front board; and the head of the spine strip lightly damaged. and both boards are lightly rubbed. There is a small bookseller's label on the front paste down and an ownership stamp on the title page and the half title page and the outer edge p.100; p162 has a neat annotation on the outer edge, and sadly there is intermittent mild foxing throughout the book.
