Disbound slim pamphlet in very good condition, some fraying around spine, some turning to a few page corners at bottom, but a clean, firm copy with sound binding. The TP lists Frederick Hill as the author, not Frederic as he was baptised. Hill was one of the most notable Victorian prison reformers and politically involved throughout his career, including working towards the Reform Bill of 1832. The pamphlet would have been written just prior to Hill joining the Birmingham Political Union, which campaigned for the extension of the vote. His brother Rowland, inventor of the postage stamp, had an equally illustrious career. To tp, in a Victorian hand, in pencil, 'First Composition in print by Frederic Hill' and in ink, the date 1828. As well as the preface, Davidson provides his own introduction. A comprehensive résumé of the Magnum member's work including chapters from The Dwarf [Circus pictures], Brooklyn Gang, Black Americans and Welsh Miners. SIGNED by Davidson to half title. Unclipped dust jacket, housed in a mylar protective sleeve. Some creasing, crimping to jacket around head of spine, some minor darkening around folds. Light shelfwear to base of covers, else fine.

Illustrated endpapers. pp. 125 with 122 colour photographic plates of shoes designed by Takada between 1967 and 1990. Held her first exhibition at a Ginza art gallery in 1966 since when she became one of the most innovative and stylish shoe designers of the C20th. Unclipped jacket with light edgewear only. Uncommon.

With a superb collection of photographs, showcasing items from the early Apple I in 1977 to the Lisa in 1983, through to more recent iDevices and Macbooks. Rebound in later black faux leather, with new endpapers, five raised bands to spine, gilt title, 'Infallible Guide', to cover, and date, 1689. pp. [i], title, [iv], imprimatur, [v-vi], contents, 132. A scarce copy of Hooper's second work, an apologetic in defence of the Anglican Church. Hooper had a more than accomplished academic record, being elected a scholar at St Paul's School, and subsequently granted a King's Scholarship at Westminster School. At Oxford he excelled in mathematics, while also learning good Hebrew and Syriac alongside Greek and Latin. In 1680 he was appointed chaplain to King Charles II. London and New York: John Lane The Bodley Head, 1898. First Edition. Printed wrappers. Good. 8vo., (17cm). Number Six in the Bodley Booklets series. pp. 118 [8]. To flyleaf, an old bookseller's pencilled note and what appears to be a name; on first blank, in a fine hand, the name Hugh M Tosh, dated 1908. The backstrip has worn away, with just a strip with the title remaining, and the rear wrapper is detached. Wrappers somewhat chipped, worn to tips, with creases to front, darkened, a few minor marks. Even so, if somewhat fragile, the binding is holding perfectly well. Rolfe's first major publication after Tarcissus some 18 years earlier and which launched his career as a writer.

Text in English and Chinese. pp. 142. With 155 plates, chiefly b&w, some in colour. A clean, sound copy, in a dust jacket with a couple of small closed tears, repaired to back with archival tape. An excellent resource on the subject.

Substantial new material added since the 2nd edition. There are three new chapters on project financing and commodities restructuring, bond restructurings and liability management."

Panelled black morocco, with floral blind stamped border. Five raised bands. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers, inside gilt dentelles. Matching gilt blocked decorations of acorns and oak leaves to spine compartments and covers. Facsimile of the 1633 University of Cambridge first edition. xvi, 192, [3], index. Some tanning to pages at margins - seems to be a recurring issue with some Stock editions - joints rubbed, slight crack to front inner hinge. No ownership marks or annotations. No limitation, but a scarce Elliot Stock facsimile edition with no other copies listed online as of May, '23.

Full bleed colour photographic images on paper over thick laminated card pages. Unpaginated. Signed by Homma to inner rear pastedown in pen. With the accompanying 20p. loose leaf pamphlet leaflet in the fluorescent green enclosed with text in Japanese and English, including two essays, by architect Momoyo Kajima, 'Ways of Looking at the Suburban Landscape,' and 'In the very fact of an intensity without having "meaning"', by sociologist Shinji Miyadai. Images from the endless sprawl of Tokyo's suburbs, capturing well manicured lawns, bright pastel shades and dreamy blue skies. Taylor - possibly the English idealist philosopher, (1869-1945). A shadow, likely from a removed ex libris label, to front pastedown. Rubbed to spine ends and tips, joints slightly rubbed, minor spine lean, short crack to gutter of rear endpaper - not to joint. A well read copy, but the plates in fine condition, bright and fresh with unfoxed tissue guards. Binding firm, pages clean and unmarked, overall a sound copy. Translated from 'Études sur la Bière' (1876), in which Pasteur demonstrated that bad beer came about from microorganisms in the air, and not the previously held belief from some form of spontaneous generation.
