1855 Captain James Cook Pacific Voyages Hawaii Australia Kippis Narrative 2in1

"Remember, the greater the opportunity, the fewer are those who see it."
– James Cook

James Cook was an 18th-century British explorer known for his three major world voyages. The third Pacific voyage, which began in 1776, took Cook and his crew around New Zealand and Hawaii. On this trip, Cook became well-acquainted with the King of Hawaii, Kalani-opu'u. After spending time in the South Pacific, Cook also took his ship northward to the Aleutian Islands reaching to the Arctic Circle. Cook eventually died upon his return to Hawaii, after angering the King of Hawaii.
This account of the life and voyages of James Cook was written by Andrew Kippis, an 18th-century English author. Kippis's biography was especially well-known for his descriptions of Cook's character as well as the lasting effects of his voyages and discoveries.

"Life in Brazil" is a detailed 19th-century account of Thomas Ewbank's journey to Brazil, where he explores the nation's culture, arts, customs, and natural beauty. The book offers a vivid picture of Brazilian society and serves as a window into the country's way of life. Ewbank also delves into religious aspects, discussing the influence of Roman Catholicism on the Brazilian people and its connection to ancient pagan practices. In addition to religious matters, Ewbank covers various aspects of Brazilian life, including arts, manners, customs, architecture, trades, tools, pottery, food, slavery, animals, agricultural products, climate, diseases, population, and antiquities. Beginning with a harrowing shipwreck off Cape Stillo and the crew's subsequent detention by the local authorities, the narrative delves into the author's interactions with the inhabitants, the customs, and the landscape of the region. Elmhirst provides insights into the influence of French principles on the Roman Catholic-dominated populace, describes his travels across notable cities such as Girace and Casal-Nuovo, and sheds light on the dire state of regions affected by past earthquakes. 1824 ARCTIC Exploration 1ed Private Journal of Lyon Eskimos Illustrated + MAP
George Francis Lyon was a 19th-century British naval officer who made his name keeping journals on his African and Arctic voyages. His private journals, particularly of his Arctic exploration with William Parry, became highly influential to later expeditions to those seeking the Northwest Passage encountering Eskimo Indians.
According to Field,
"Almost the entire volume is devoted to the narration of the peculiarities of the Aborigines of the Arctic regions. Captain Lyon's curiosity led him to observe with great attention, the habits of life, and traits of character of the different tribes of Esquimaux, which his humanity, and good management attracted to his winter quarters. They built their villages near his ships, and permitted a closer familiarity, than any other of the Arctic voyagers was able to attain. His narrative, therefore, abounds with incidents of their intercourse, and curious anecdotes of Esquimaux life."… Read More
