Leipsic: Karl Baedeker 1894, 2nd edition, revised and augmented. (Limp cloth) 444pp. Good to very good. With 17 maps, 44 plans, and a panorama of Jerusalem. The covers are worn and the book is dampstained on the top and bottom edges through about half of the book (including the panorama). The maps are generally clean. The half-title page has a two-inch horizontal tear. Locale: Palestine; Syria. (Travel/Adventure, Guidebooks).

The famed Lyon publisher Elzevier published a series of travel guides under the title 'Respublica'. This work is a collection of various authors on European countries focusing on geography and historical significance. This volume covers the Holy Roman Empire, the history of Germany, as well as biographical sketches of each of the rules and kings from Charlemagne to Ferdinand II.

Authorship on this work is ambiguous – often attributed to Philipp Cluver or Carlo Ludovico.

Bluish-gray weave patterned cloth hardcover with decorated front; tied with ribbons at spine; this is the kind of binding without a spine; 103 pages; illustrated with photographs in different monotone colors; no date but charts of rainfall etc. show through 1906 at the latest. Very good minus condition: slight toning and foxing; pencil ownership inscription dated 1910; the ribbon that tied the spine is decayed and partly missing..

This is a lovely Limited Edition of 150 copies only. Originally was in 10 parts from 1972-1975 the limited edition was published in !975 with a few changes and additional illustrations. Signed by the author - Ivor Waters. The illustrator Mercedes Waters and cartography Bryan Woodfield. Beautiful black and white illustrations,maps and photographs throughout the book. Cream dust jacket with minimal wear, a tiny tear on upper front near spine with some irregularity and wear on the upper spine jacket. Green boards with Gilt writing on the spine in very good condition. The photographs are the actual book showing signatures and the small defect on dust jacket upper spine and tear in Dust jacket as it is.

Full page hand-written statement on the front end-paper. says: Mr. Horton is best-known for his unforgettable portrayal of Mr. Alexander P. Lovett "Lovey" in the timeless 1937 motion picture "Lost Horizon" directed by Frank Capra. VERY GOOD CONDITION/ NO DJ INCLUDED.

Boston: Haitian Bureau of Emigration, 1861. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. 180, 12 pages. Hardcover bound in original full taupe publisher's cloth. The binding has been rebacked with the original spine laid down and with the corners reinforced. New endpapers. A sound copy; the binding is a little tight. Text is toned. Complete with the frontis portrait and a large folding color map. A piece of paper (the 20th century binder's notes) were taped onto the Dedication page resulting in browning on that page and the facing page. This shows up a bit on the title page as well.

Book is near Fine. Soft leather boards are in Fine condition having been protected by DJ. Binding is in very good condition.
Edges marbled. Internally clean free of foxing, markings or inscriptions except for previous owner name in pencil on title page and previous sale price and year in pencil on half title.
DJ has age related wear with chipping at extremities and closed tears at folds (see images).
A very scarce title with DJ particularly in such condition. It includes rare publisher's slip on detaching sections, if desired.

Very good copy of the third edition of Baedeker's Handbook for Travellers. This is the last edition of this handbook for Lower Egypt. 14 maps, 33 plans, 7 views and 76 vignettes. Book is very good. Soft leather boards clean. Binding tight. Edges marbled. Light cracking of hinge inside front cover but still very firm (see images).Cover has very small wear at corners and head and tail of spine.Only marking or inscription is name and address of previous owner in pencil on first blank with previous sale price and edition also in pencil. Tiny bookseller label on front pastedown.
Overall, a well preserved copy of an uncommon title.
