Harlequin 51 [51] 1950, 1st printing. (Mass market paperback) 288pp. Good to very good. The top of the spine has small tears and has been carefully repaired, the front cover has some minor creasing and a small nibble from the bottom edge, the spine has some creasing but is reasonably bright and square. This is one of the toughest Harlequins to find. (Cookbooks, Purity Flour Mills).

Toronto: Harlequin 117 [117] 1951. (Mass market paperback) 157pp. Very good. The author's second book. A bright copy with a faint opening crease on the front cover, a small corner crease, the spine very lightly rubbed, and the front cover slightly puckered as is common with old Harlequins. A nice copy. (Mystery Fiction, Hard Boiled Detective Fiction).

New York: Avon Book Company. What is offered here are both of the first edition paperback editions published by Avon Book Company. The first was published in 1945 as part of the Murder Mystery Monthly series, size: 7.5" x 5.25". The second was published a year later with the smaller format of 6.5" x 4.125". Both copies have very minor wear only and natural paperback ageing, no inscriptions. They both contain the following stories: Trouble is My Business; Pearls are a Nuisance; I'll be Waiting, The King in Waiting; Red Wind. Given that these are paperbacks approaching seventy years old they are about as nice as you are likely to find. Digest size paperback. 128pp. Dampstain in the right-hand margin of the pages throughout, just touching a small percentage of the text, small chips and tears on the wrappers, thus good only in illustrated wrappers, but presentable and attractive with excellent cover art of a rather come-hither maid by L.B. Cole, noted for his Golden Age comic book covers. No. 2 in the publisher's Love Romance Series, *OCLC* locates a single copy of this racy pulp romance (at Bowling Green), although other books published for the Phoenix Press by Brewster are held, no copy of the original of this title is, and perhaps it was re-titled when condensed and issued by this publisher.

This hard to find vintage paperback is in decent but delicate condition and so we usually keep it protected in plastic and that is how it would be mailed to the buyer. However, it is 100% in tact and there are no loose pages or markings. The spine is a little frayed at the top (see picture).

New York: Armed Services Editions, 1943. Special Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. Armed Services edition D-117, first edition thus, wrappers. Some wear and toning to covers and pages, but complete and in very good condition for its age and the fact it was made to be carried by soldiers during wartime. This title was so popular, it was reissued later in the series as ASE K-28. Published during WWII by the Council on Books in Wartime and distributed to GIs, Armed Services Editions were part of the U.S. military effort to fight against propaganda and to promote free thought. This title was one of the most popular in the ASE series, but is now very hard to find. Featured in the Grolier Club exhibit "The Best Read Army in the World", on view through December 30, 2023.
