S. commissioner Arizona- Worlds Exposition New Orleans LA April 18th 1885" with Sales Receipt from Dawson s Book Shop 1938.Murphy was president and founder of Prescott Bank, President of the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix Railroad, commissioner of Arizona in 1885 when it was a territory.

A very good plus condition in a flexible binding of this historic Southern California turn of the century history. Front free endpaper shows some offsetting as well as the rear endpaper.

[Missouri][Politics] Autograph Letter Signed. St Louis, Easter Sunday, April 7, 1844. From R. C. Cabeen to his Cousin Mr. J. W. Cabeen in Bluff Post office, Merced County, Illinois. One sheet folded into four leaves. Self-folded to stamp-less envelope. Very good. Legible writing.
Mentions the children have had the measles, and the Spring business season has not yet occurred. At the end a short discussion of wheat prices and crops. Most of the letter is a long discussion of Missouri politics, the election and Henry Clay, etc. In the 1844 election Henry Clay was the Whig candidate and James Polk was the Democratic candidate. A faction of the Democratic Party were known as the Loco Focos and the Whigs charged that Van Buren was a Loco Foco radical. Clay was referred to as "Ol Coon Clay," so that "coon" was a reference to Whigs. These terms are used in the letter:

Philadelphia: Thomas, Cowperthwaite & Co., 1848. This map is from the 1848 edition of A NEW UNIVERSAL ATLAS CONTAINING MAPS OF THE VARIOUS EMPIRES. The atlas was based primarily on the H. S. Tanner UNIVERSAL ATLAS, the rights to which were purchased by Mitchell from Carey & Hart. The early Mitchell maps are distinguished by their vivid hand-coloring and attractive decorated borders. They are among the most sought-after ante-bellum maps published in the United States. This map is guaranteed to be authentic and more than 170 years old. It is in very good condition: clean and bright, with some toning. There is one tiny chip out of one corner of the sheet--far away from the image.. Original. Single Sheet. Very Good. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Map.

Denver, (1870): S.S. Wallihan & Company. Octavo. The first year of publication. 442 pages, plus 7 full page ads in the front and 59 full page ads at the rear with ads found throughout the text. Besides being an important and the earliest accurate directory of Denver and other Colorado counties, it has a detailed list of the mines in all the counties (p. 174-216) Howes C 611 who notes this was printed in Chicago prior to the fire, thus, a pre-Chicago fire imprint. It also has the bookseller label of Raymer's Old Bookstore. He later removed to Minneapolis where he advertised using the same ad format in 1885 and then in 1889 was convicted of violating the second-hand dealer's ordinance for buying valuable books for only $1. Bound in original green cloth centrally stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt. Professional restoration to spine ends, light wear to corners, some soiling. A very good copy. Signed. History of the Pecos of West Texas. Author is an engineer, educator and community influential in Pecos. No dust jacket, as issued. Book(s) are clean and tight with only the slightest shelfware. Laid in are brochures of the West of the Pecos Museum and Monahans Sandhills State Park (with map). Volume 1, published in 1978, has no ISBN. Volume 2, published in 1981, has an ISBN. Signed on front flyleaf of volume 1, "Alton Hughes 1980".

Signed. Born in 1875, Forest McNeir moved to the Galveston Bay area and did a bunch of stuff; oystering, selling cow hides, until he landed in the construction business. He wrote the book when he was 80, for the benefit of his children. The book is in great shape, the corners are crisp, and the spine is not sun damaged or rubbed. It's a little dusty and a little cocked, but the pages are clean and unmarked. The dust jacket is rough; it has chips, tears and stains all around, but it's intact; it did its job. The author has inscribed, dated and signed the book on the half title page. This book has been reprinted, but this is the 1956 edition.
