OCLC shows no holdings for this item or this development. Willis S. Hunt appears in the Nogales papers from 1919 to the 1920s as a Culiacan, Mexico resident and land agent. An ambitious attempt to market 247 acre blocks to Americans. Map shows the Southern Pacific Railway line. The map on the verso shows larger area around the proposed development.

Where in a perfect climate, may be found cheap homes for a million people. Stains and splits at fold. Good.

References 1890 population and agricultural statistics and the forthcoming World's Columbian Exposition which was head in 1893. "List of the cities, towns, and stations located on the line of the Missouri, Kansas & Texas Railway in Texas" and historical information on select Texas counties. Also covers Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Illinois, and parts of Tennessee, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico, but not the southernmost tip of Texas.

[California] S. Lang? Autograph letter, signed. San Francisco, California. June 16, 1852. To his wife. One sheet folded into four leaves. Some 450 words, around 350 on the voyage.
Describes his trip across Panama, including being thrown off his mule, to the amusement of the natives. Also a woman who was a passenger had her two infants being carried by Indian women and they were separated during a torrential downpour. When they had not come to Panama City by nine p.m. they went searching for them and found them at 4 a.m., some 10 miles away "asleep on the bodies of their natives." They stopped to load coal in Acapulco. The passage took 25 days, but he arrived in good health, because until they were within three day of arrival "one might imagine him left on the Hudson Bay River so very smooth was the sea." Nice, if relatively brief, first-hand account of an 1854 steamship voyage to San Francisco.

Two volumes, uniformly bound in three-quarter leather and marbled boards, housed in a custom cloth slipcase and chemise. Complete with two engraved maps (one linen-backed and folding), frontispiece and two additional plates in each volume, as well as illustrations in the text. Text and plates very clean. Wagner-Camp (108:2): "Commerce of the Prairies is regarded as one of the classic accounts of the trans-Mississippi West....Wheat calls its map, 'a cartographic landmark...an outstanding achievement.' Signed. First Edition. Profile of Dallas' first important artist, Frank Reaugh. He surrounded himself with students, who called themselves the Frank Reaugh Art Club and they went out on sketch trips to West Texas. The book contains the rare booklet "Prose Sketches - 24 Hours with the Herd", which is printed in it's entirety starting on page 113. The book has only a slight bump on the spine tail and is Near Fine. The dust jacket has 75% paper loss on the spine and is chipped all around, but it's still in one piece: Listed as Good. I have an original copy of "Prose Sketches - 24 Hours with the Herd", listed in my online store. The book is signed by both authors on the front free end page (no personal inscription).

In a review of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's "Masterworks from the Museum of the American Indian" exhibition, the New York Times referred to Gorman as the Picasso of American-Indian Art.
