Torino: Nella stamperia reale, 1758. First edition. Very Good. Quarto (26 cm); [4] leaves, 166 pages, and two engraved folding plates. Engraved vignette on title pages (illustrating the event narrated in the text), engraved portrait of Carlo Emmanuele, two engraved initials with figures of cherubs. Bima, Catalogo ragionato, in "La Stampa Reale di Torino" (2003), p. 91; Wellcome V, 148; Blake NLM 426.. This work, which describes the experiences of two sisters, their brother's wife, and her five-year-old child trapped in a ruined stable by an avalanche for 37 days, is now considered a pioneering study in post-traumatic stress disorder. It is the first scientific study of the effects of survival through a period of privation. A rare poster advertising Embrace the Base, one of the key mass actions at the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp. We have been able to locate only two other copies in institutional collections, at the LSE Women's Library and the Glasgow Women's Library. The Greenham Common protest was established in September of 1981 by the Welsh group Women for Life on Earth, who were opposed to the deployment of nuclear tipped Cruise missiles at the site. What was initially planned as a single march became a permanent protest camp in place until… Read More

Description:
The Debutante Register: 1945. This is a rare book. A large register of women who made their "debut" into society between 1943-1945. Some skipped their Debutante Ball due to the war. There is a photograph of each woman, and underneath is their name, who their parents are, where and when they held their debut, and a couple sentences about their education or their family history. Included amongst the women in this book is SHIRLEY TEMPLE! Her debut lists "cancelled due to the war." There are multiple signatures on the forward page, and I'm not sure if this book is signed or if the signatures were printed on from the originals. Please see photos. * The pages of the book are in great condition. It is just the cover that is not in great shape. **5% of this sale will go towards the fight against racial injustice.
