Copyright ends at 1965, No Edition, No Printing Stated. Last page has 72-73-74-75 10 9. The American Edition is the Second Edition. This is a First American Edition with a 1972 (later) Printing. The dust jacket has some soiling with tears at edges of the spine and corners, see photos. Book itself is in Near Fine condition with the exception of a stain inside the cover which transferred to the FEP and bled onto two pages beneath. (Lowered the rating to Very Good). The black boards with blue lettering have bumped spine edges.

Convent-raised Marguerite de Launay lived a comfortable life until her benefactress died and poverty compelled her to become a lady-in-waiting. Her clever literary gifts emerged at court, where she assisted the Duchess due Maine with her Mémoire des princes légitimes. She was involved in scandals and romances and eventually married to a more secure station. Her memoirs are compelling and humorous reading, and are very much of the time.
Handsome limited edition of the amusing and clear-sighted memoirs. Here with a preface by Mme La Baronne Double and 41 etchings par A.D. Lalauze. In French.
Paris: Edition Jouaust, Librarie des Bibliophiles, 1890. 204, 212 pages. Each volume 19 x 12 x 3cm. Three quarter leather binding with four bands to spine. Very pretty, though most pages cockled and stiff, and so overall condition good only.

Unfortunately, not much is known about the photographer Diby Yao Christophe, but his photo book, Du twist à cocody, ou l'art de la natte, is an amazing document of hairstyles from the Ivory Coast of the 1970s.

This very scarce book was made between April 1970 and June 1972, in collaboration with the Institut d'Ethno-Sociologie
in Abidjan, which was at the time of publication the capital of the Ivory Coast. Interestingly, the book was published in French and English, by the French publisher Éditions Dalfoz, in 1972, translated by Timothy and Kathryn Weiskel.
Christophe ends his book with this very powerful statement:
"Why do some of our stylish women prefere [sic] bleached hair or wigs to genuine African creations? One's real hair, in my opinion, is worth more than faked hair, and an art evolved over time is always better than imported styles of others.
